15th India Singapore Foreign Office Consultations 2021

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. The 15th India-Singapore Foreign Office Consultations were held virtually on 11 Aug. The Indian delegation was led by Secretary (East) in Ministry of External Affairs Riva Ganguly Das and the Singapore delegation was led by Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chee Wee Kiong. Both sides reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations and expressed their satisfaction that despite the pandemic, bilateral relationship, especially in trade and defence cooperation.

2. No talks have been held between India and the Taliban, Mohammad Suhail Shaheen told India Today from Doha in Qatar. Mohammad Suhail Shaheen is a member of the negotiations team and the Taliban’s spokesperson for international media.

3. The Indian mission in Kabul has also asked all its nationals to make immediate travel arrangements to return to India before commercial air services are discontinuedNew Delhi: Amid the turmoil in Afghanistan, India has brought back 50 of its nationals from Mazar e Sharif.

4. India-Russia Military Ties: “The 12th edition of Indo-Russia joint military exercise Indra-21 will be held at Volgograd, Russia from August 1 to 13.

5. Actually the INDRA series of exercises began in 2003 and was conducted as a bilateral naval exercise alternately between the two countries. However, the first joint Tri-Services Exercise was conducted in 2017.
The last joint, tri-services exercise between India and Russia was conducted in India in December 2019.
It was held simultaneously at Babina (near Jhansi), Pune, and Goa. A joint exercise with one or more nations serves the purpose of signalling to a third country the influence we have in the region and a demonstration of our resolve to further our diplomatic objectives.

7. Several European countries, including the United Kingdom, France, have relaxed travel restrictions on India, But Canada has again extended its ban on arriving passenger flights directly from India till 21 Sep. This extension will impact students as they will now have to travel to a third country to reach Canada.

1. The Taliban are continuing with their offensive to capture the remaining areas in Afghanistan in an effort to establish an Islamic Emirate. They are concentrating all their efforts to capture Mazar-e-Sharif, a bustling city in the north and the capital of Balkh province.

2. Taliban wants to oust the current administration in Kabul. The Taliban will not surrender to the Afghan government. Taliban spokesperson Mohammad Suhail Shaheen told.

3. Today an International Youth Day (IYD) is celebrated. It is an awareness day designated by the United Nations. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first IYD was observed on 12 August, 2000.

4. In Greece, wildfires are continuing to rip through the Evia Island, prompting residents to flee to safety by sea.

5. A Chinese court sentenced Canadian entrepreneur Michael Spavor to 11 years in prison Wednesday in a spying case that has been linked to Beijing’s pressure campaign against the Canadian government over the arrest of an executive at tech giant Huawei.

6. Taliban could take Afghan capital in 90 days: according to US intelligence.
