1. India & Israel on 09 Aug (Monday) held a fruitful discussion to deepen their defence and industrial ties, reviewing the ongoing cooperation.
Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz said.

4. A free trade agreement between India & Australia would be an important sign of the “democratic world’s tilt away from China”, Australian special trade envoy Tony Abbott said. Actually Australia and India launched negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) in May 2011.

5. What is FTA…?
A Free trade Agreement (FTA) is an agreement between two or more countries where the countries agree on certain obligations that affect trade in goods and services, and protections for investors and intellectual property rights, among other topics. FTAs are treaties between two or more countries designed to reduce or eliminate certain barriers to trade and investment, and to facilitate stronger trade and commercial ties between participating countries.

6. More than 8000 Myanmar nationals crossed into India since the country saw a coup in February, the Defence Ministry in a statement in Parliament said today. Of the more than 8000, more than 5,500 have been “pushed back” while over 2500 are still in India.

7. No cases of infiltration have been reported at the Indo-China border during 2021, the Ministry of Defence told .

8. Canada extended the ban on direct flights from India till September 21 due to risks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

1. Afghan govt forces were fighting the Taliban for a string of southern cities, after the insurgents took control of five provincial capitals in a 72-hour weekend blitz.

2. Greece, wildfires are continuing to rip through the Evia Island, prompting residents to flee to safety by sea. More than 2,000 people have been evacuated. Greece and neighbouring Turkey have been battling devastating blazes for nearly two weeks as the region suffers its worst heatwave in decades.

3. China has recalled its ambassador to Lithuania in protest over Lithuania’s recent decision that it will allow the Taiwan government to set up “representative offices” in the name of “Taiwan.” It would be the self-ruled island’s first such de facto embassy in Europe to bear the name “Taiwan”, which Beijing sees as a violation of its one-China policy. Normally only “Taipei” is used.

4. Chinese researchers found that people infected with Delta carry 1,260 times more viruses in their noses compared with the original version of the coronavirus.
