Paris, 30th July 2024: Indian shooter Ramita finished her maiden Olympics campaign on Monday in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle in Paris with a seventh-place finish, scoring 145.3. Despite not winning a medal, the 20-year-old won hearts in Paris with her brave and inspiring showing. Competing against her vastly more experienced shooters, Ramita held her own and kept her fellow competitors on their toes.

On Sunday, Ramita scored 631.5 in the Qualification round to become only the second female rifle shooter after Suma Shirur (Athens 2004) to make it to the Olympic final. She left the present Indian fans in Paris impressed with her resilience, finishing fifth in the Qualifications Round, despite a slow start.

Speaking on her achievements and experiences of competing in Paris, Ramita said, “It was a good learning experience for me. To reach the Final and compete against some of the best shooters in the world, has boosted my confidence.”

Ramita, who hails from Ladwa District in Kurukshetra, credited her time at the Gagan Narang Sports Promotion Foundation for her steady growth over the past couple of years. She began her training in 2017 in her hometown and won several medals across state and National Levels. Ramita found prominence after she joined Gun for Glory in November 2022 in Chennai under the tutelage of Rifle Coach Ms. Neha Chavan. Between 2022 and 2024, Ramita added several laurels to her name, including a Bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.

“With systematic training and scientific modules of training at the Gagan Narang Sports Promotion Foundation, provided by the best coaching staff, I received ample support to make necessary adjustments to my game which allowed me to play more freely. I was also provided the much-needed assistance from physiotherapists and mental health trainers, which helped me focus on my sport without worrying about external factors, and allowed me to maintain my fitness for the level of competition I faced in Paris,” Ramita signed off.
