National Handloom Day

1. Textile Ministry will celebrate the 7th National Handloom Day today (07Aug). The handloom weaving community will be honoured for their contribution in the socio-economic development of this country. Now Minister of Textiles *Piyush Goyal*

7. Earlier, the Govt had implemented the National Digital Literacy Mission or the Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (DISHA) or National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) to impart IT training to 52.5 lakh persons, including Anganwadi and ASHA workers and authorised ration dealers in all the States/UTs across the country so that the non-IT literate citizens are trained to become IT literate so as to enable them to actively and effectively participate in the democratic and developmental process and also enhance their livelihood.

8. The Lok Sabha on 06 Aug passed without any discussion the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021, that aims to nullify the relevant retrospective tax clauses introduced in 2012 to bring past indirect transfer of Indian assets under the ambit of taxation amid Opposition protests on the Pegasus snooping controversy and the three central farm laws.

11. A temporary gate will be erected at Pulichintala dam Andhra Pradesh on 07 Aug. The water resources authorities have deployed a team of experts to install a temporary gate called ‘Stop Lock Gate’ in the place of the radial crest gate number 16, which was washed away due to a mechanical failure in the early hours on Friday.

12. The Supreme Court on 06 Aug, issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the suo motu case pertaining to the death of Uttam Anand, an additional district and sessions judge in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad, who was knocked down by an autorickshaw last month.

13. In Bihar, Flood situation continues to be grim in Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Jehanabad districts. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the flood threat to Patna, Nalanda and other districts might increase if there is more rainfall in the coming days in north and south Bihar.

14. The Karnataka government has decided to reopen schools for students from class 9 to 12 (II PUC) from August 23, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said.

15. The Karnataka govt on 06 Aug (Friday) announced weekend lockdown and nigh curfew from 9 pm to 5 am on Monday, in districts bordering Kerala and Maharashtra, and that the existing night curfew across the state.

18. J&K, security forces recovered arms & ammunition during a search operation that was launched on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday in Samba district of Jammu division. The operation was launched in Babbar Nallah area of Samba district.

21. Srinagar to get international football stadium based on FIFA construction norms. The National Projects Construction Corporation (NPCC) is building this stadium at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar.

22. Result of the third session of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2021 has been announced. 17 students have scored the perfect 100 percentile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has said. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have the highest number – four each – of toppers.

23. The Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH), Bhiwani, has declared former four-time Chief Minister and INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala deemed to have passed the Class XII examination. However, his result has been withheld on “technical grounds”. In 2017, while being lodged in the Tihar jail following his conviction in the JBT teachers scam, Chautala had passed the Class X examination of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).

24. The examination was conducted at 915 examination centres in 334 Cities, including 12 cities outside India in Baharain, Colombo, Doha, Dubai, Kathmandu, Kualalampur, Lagos, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore & Kuwait.
