1. The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah launched India’s first-ever toll-free national helpline for narcotics-related issues, termed MANAS (Madak Padarth Nisedh Asuchna Kendra), or the Narcotics Prohibition Intelligence Centre on 18 Jul.

2. The book “Wings to Our Hopes – Volume I,” a compilation of selected speeches by President Droupadi Murmu, was launched at the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex in New Delhi.

3. BJP leaders, including the party’s Karnataka unit President B Y Vijayendra, were detained when they tried to lay siege to ‘Vidhana Soudha’ on Thursday demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over the alleged scam in the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Ltd.

4. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday said his government has decided to withhold the bill mandating job reservation for Kannadigas in private sector due to “certain confusion.”

5. Haryana government announces 10 percent reservation for Agniveers in Police, Mining and Jail departments.

6. The National Medical Commission has approved 50 MBBS seats for a new Government Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Jajpur. The seats have been approved for the 2024-25 academic year.

7. *Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah deletes post announcing 100% Quota Bill for jobs for Kannadigas* : After the post was deleted, the Labour Minister of Karnataka clarified that the reservation of jobs in the private firms would be a maximum of 70% in the non-management roles while only 50% for those who are eligible for the management level roles.

8. The All India Muslim Personal Law Board announced that it plans to challenge the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, which allows divorced Muslim women to claim maintenance after the ‘Iddat’ period. The board also intends to contest the recently passed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) law in Uttarakhand.

9. Health Secretary Apurva Chandra inaugurated new facilities at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in New Delhi. These facilities include office space, a reading room for undergraduate and postgraduate students, three waiting areas for patients and attendants, a new pharmacy, and new OPD registration halls.

10. The Telangana government is set to release Rs. 6,098 crore to benefit over 11 lakh farmers as part of its extensive Loan Waiver Scheme. Now it is applicable to farmers with loans under Rs. 1 lakh. This initial phase aims to benefit approximately 11 lakh farming families, providing them with much-needed financial relief.

11. Ayodhya Ram Temple’s head priest Acharya Satyendra Das has joined the league of seers objecting to a new temple in Delhi in the name of Kedarnath Dham. He said it was not appropriate to make another temple in the name of Kedarnath.

12. The Karnataka government has reportedly decided to implement the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission effective from August 1. In a meeting on Monday (July 15), the state government employees will now see a 27.5% salary increase from 1 August.

13. PM Modi addressed the employees posted at BJP Headquarters in New Delhi at Sneh Milan programme.

14. Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the National Narcotics Helpline ‘MANAS’ 1933. Through ‘MANAS’ which stands for (Madak Padarth Nisedh Asuchna Kendra) helpline, citizens can share information on drug trafficking, connect with the Narcotics Control Bureau anonymously 24 hours a day to get advice on de-addiction and rehabilitation.

15. The India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam in Telangana & over Chhattisgarh on 19th and 20th of this month.

1. The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to declare by 12 noon of July 20 the centre and city-wise results of NEET-UG 2024 while masking the identities of aspirants.

2. The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the release of YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar who was detained under the Goondas Act in May by the Tamil Nadu police.

3. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested four MBBS students of AIIMS Patna in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case.

4. *Trainee IAS Puja Khedkar likely to face termination, criminal charges over alleged false disability, caste claims* : The panel, led by Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) additional secretary Manoj Dwivedi, is set to delve into how Khedkar obtained the documents supporting her disability and OBC status.

5. The Pune Rural Police on Thursday arrested and detained Manorama Khedkar, mother of the controversial trainee IAS officer Puja Khedkar, from Mahad near Raigad district.

Manorama Khedkar was last in the news for a viral video wherein she can be seen threatening farmers in Pune’s Mulshi taluka with a pistol. Her husband and former IAS officer Dilip Khedkar allegedly amassed wealth and bought 25 acres of land in Mulshi taluka.

6. *Another Puja Khedkar? Telangana IAS officer allegedly misused OH quota to enter UPSC.* The allegations come amid the controversy surrounding Puja Khedkar, the probationary IAS officer in Maharashtra, who is facing allegations of misusing disability and OBC quotas to become an IAS officer.

Praful Desai, an IAS officer from Telangana, has been accused of misusing a disability quota to pass the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination. Praful Desai, who serves as an Additional Collector of Karimnagar in Telangana, has been accused of misusing the Orthopedically Handicapped (OH) quota after pictures of him cycling, playing tennis, rafting, and horse riding started doing the rounds on social media.

7. Former Andhra CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, two IPS officials booked in ‘attempt to murder’ case
The case is based on an FIR filed by TDP MLA and former YSRCP leader Raghu Rama Krishnam Raju.

8. The Supreme Court directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the results of all NEET-UG 2024 students on its website till Saturday.

1. Several coaches of the Chandigarh- Dibrugarh express train derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda. Three passengers died in the incident while around 20 are injured. Out of 23, 21 coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh express train derailed, including five AC coaches.

2. Four people were killed and 20 injured when at least four coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed in Gonda, UP, on Wednesday.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on July 15 announced monetary penalties on five co-operative banks for various rule violations. The affected banks include Sivagangai District Central Co-operative Bank, Abasaheb Patil Rendal Sahakari Bank, Krishna Sahakari Bank, Nagarik Sahakari Bank, and The Mahabaleshwar Urban Cooperative Bank, according to an official release by the central bank.
