The Indian women’s hockey team qualified for the 1st time in the Olympics quarterfinal after Great Britain beat Ireland 2-0 in the last Pool A group match, securing the 4th spot for India.
The top four teams from each of the two pools advance to the quarter-finals. India is placed on rank 4 with 6 points after Great Britain with 9 points.
India’s hopes of making the quarter-final rested totally on the outcome of the last Pool A group match between Great Britain and Ireland, as lost earlier 3 pool matches , retains only 4 points & luckily Great Britain’s win against Ireland, 2-0 .
Earlier,Indian women’s hockey team defeated South Africa 4-3 in a must-win Tokyo Olympics Pool A group match at the Oi Hockey Stadium on Saturday . Vandana Katariya” steered her team to victory by becoming the first Indian woman to score a hat-trick at the Olympics.
The Indian women to face World No 4th , Australia in Quarter-Finals , Scheduled for 2nd August 2021 at 8.30 Am at Oi Hockey Stadium , (Tokyo) (Japan)
