1. IMD has issued red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka, Saurashtra and Kutch, Konkan and Goa today.

An orange alert for very heavy rainfall has been issued in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam. It said, very heavy rainfall is also likely over Uttarakhand, Gujarat and East Rajasthan.

1. An Indian naval warship and a P-8I maritime patrol aircraft have been sent for search and rescue efforts in Oman after a Comoros-flagged Oil Tanker MV Prestige Falcon capsized about 25 Nautical Miles South East of Ras Madrakah.

The tanker is reported to have a total of 16-member crew, which includes 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans.

2. The Haryana government will provide 10% horizontal reservation to Agniveers in recruitment to certain posts in police, mining and jail departments. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini made this announcement.

3. Indian Army on 16 July said it deeply regrets the loss of lives of our four soldiers who were killed in an encounter with terrorists in Doda district.

Dozens of Village Defence Guards (VDGs), armed with 303 rifles, are helping security forces in the Desa forest of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district in their search for the terrorists who killed four soldiers on Monday night.

4. India’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Sandeep Arya held detailed discussions with Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien in Hanoi on Monday as both countries continue to bat for increased defence cooperation, including in areas of technology transfer and military training.

5. The Director General of Assam Rifles Lt. General Pradeep Chandran Nair along with Inspector General, Assam Rifles (South) Major General Ravroop Singh called on Manipur Governor Sushree Anusuiya Uikey to brief about the prevailing security situation in the State.

A press statement issued from Raj Bhavan, Imphal said that the officers informed the Governor about the deployments of Assam Rifles personnel in Manipur in the wake of the ethnic conflict which has been continuing since May 2023.

6. The Indian Army on Tuesday inducted 40 heavy-duty hydraulic mobile cranes from Tractor India Limited to undertake operations during disaster management with better efficiency. These versatile, new age and high-tech cranes will enhance the operational preparedness of Combat Engineers.

An Indian Air Force soldier, who contracted AIDS due to transfusion of contaminated blood at a military hospital in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba in 2002, has received Rs 18 lakh and the residual amount of over Rs 1.41 crore awarded to him as compensation has been deposited with the apex court registry, the IAF has informed the Supreme Court.

8. Eight Indians and a Sri Lankan national were rescued by an Indian warship while carrying out a rescue operation to trace the crew members of a Comoros-flagged oil tanker that capsized off the Oman coast, the Indian Navy said.
