1. Lok Sabha Session from June 24
The date of election for the post of Speaker in the newly-elected Lok Sabha is scheduled next week. The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on June 24 during which new members of the Lower House will take oath and the Speaker elected. The date of election has been fixed to be June 26.

The Speaker of the Lok Sabha has always been elected without any contest since Independence. So, if the Opposition INDIA bloc forces an election for the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha on June 26, it would be the first such instance in the history of Independent India as the person to assume the crucial chair in the Lower House of the Parliament has always been chosen by a consensus between the ruling and opposition parties or alliances.

2. PM Modi said that agriculture will play major role in making India world’s third largest economy. The Prime Minister was addressing a large gathering at PM Kisan Samman Sammelan in Varanasi. Prime Minister also granted Certificates to more than 30 thousand women from Self Help Groups (SHGs) as Krishi Sakhis.

3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar today.

4. The biennial election for 11 seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council will take place on July 12, the Election Commission of India announced on Tuesday. The 6-year term in office of 11 MLCs, elected by the Members of Legislative Assembly, is due to end on July 27 on their retirement.

5. India will get below-normal monsoon rainfall in June, the India meteorological department said on Tuesday as the north and northwestern parts of the country reeled under an intense heatwave.

6. The Congress party on June 17 demanded the withdrawal of clearances and a ground-up review of the ₹72,000 crore infrastructure project, being championed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, at the Great Nicobar Island.

7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the 10th International Day of Yoga celebration in Srinagar on the 21st of this month. This year’s International Day of Yoga theme is Yoga for Self and Society.

8. Tezpur University Intellectual Property Rights Cell (TUIPR), in collaboration with the Assam Science Technology & Environment Council (ASTEC) and the Science Technology and Climate Change Department, Govt. of Assam organized a day-long program titled “Brainstorming Session on Prospects of Promoting Geographical Indications (GIs) of Assam” on 18th June 2024 at Tezpur University.

9. Incessant rain continues in Arunachal Pradesh. Road blockages have been reported from many interior places due to landslide and flash-flood caused by heavy rain.

10. Air India is establishing a flying school in Amravati, Maharashtra, to address an anticipated shortage of pilots. With the ability to teach up to 180 pilots a year, the academy would offer ambitious pilots without any prior flying experience a straight route to the cockpit of Air India when they successfully complete following training phases.

1. Security forces arrested a Hizbul Mujahideen militant in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara sub district, police said on Monday. He was in touch with a Pakistan-based handler. Zakir Hamid Mir, a resident of Kachri, Chougal was arrested in a joint operation of forces.

2. A bus carrying CRPF personnel was stopped and torched by mobs at Kangpokpi bazar in Kangpokpi district, Manipur around 8.30 pm on Monday.

The bus with registration No. MN 06 B 0463 was proceeding from DC Kangpokpi to Kangpokpi Police Station when it was stopped by the mob at Kangpokpi bazar, alleging that the bus belongs to the Meitei community.

3. Demanding a re-test, hundreds of students from various educational institutions took to the streets of Hyderabad on Tuesday to protest against the alleged NEET paper leak.

4. Forty-one airports, including in Varanasi, Chennai, Patna and Jaipur, received bomb threat emails on Tuesday, prompting authorities to scramble contingency measures and carry out anti-sabotage checks that lasted hours, and each of them was found to be a hoax.

5. Government orders probe into Lawrence Bishnoi’s Eid wish to Pak gangster from Gujarat jail. He is lodged in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Central Prison since August 2023.

6. In a tragic incident in Vasai, Mumbai, a young woman was brutally killed with a spanner by her boyfriend on Tuesday morning in Chinchpada.

Shockingly, despite the presence of several bystanders, no one intervened to stop the assault. Many were seen recording the video, while others moved away from the scene as the assailant repeatedly attacked the motionless woman.

A portion of a newly constructed bridge over the Bakra river in Bihar collapsed in Araria district on Tuesday, police said. There have been no reports of any fatality.

1. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme 17th Installment update — PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday (June 18) released the 17th Installment money of the PM-KISAN Yojna under which Rs 2,000 is being credited into the bank account of eligible farmers.

2. Private sector lender ICICI Bank has announced several new changes pertaining to its credit card charges. The new/revised charges will be applicable from 1 July 2024.

(a) it will charge Rs 200 as Card replacement fee as against current charges of Rs 100 for all cards.

(b) Exception is Rs 3500 for Emeralde Private Metal Credit Card vis-a-vis Exception Rs 199 for ICICI Bank Expressions Credit Card) and Rs 3500 for Emeralde Private Metal Credit Card.

(c) ICICI Bank is going to discontinue Cheque/Cash pick-up fee of Rs 100 per pick-up from 01 July 2024.

3. In Mercer’s 2024 Cost of Living Survey released on 17 June Mumbai solidifies its position as India’s most expensive city for expatriates, climbing to 136th globally and 21st in Asia.

4. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revoked the licence of Purvanchal Co-operative Bank, located in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, citing inadequate capital and bleak earning prospects.

5. The government plans to raise the income exempt from tax under the new regime from the current Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh in the forthcoming full budget.

1. Indian defence sector firms from both and private sectors are participating in the EUROSATORY 2024 defence show in France.The exhibition is showcasing Indian products like the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher system and the TEJAS fighter aircraft.The India pavilion at the show was inaugurated on Monday, June 17 by Indian Ambassador to France Jawed Ashraf.

2. Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan on Tuesday unveiled a joint doctrine for conducting cyberspace operations by the three services, in a significant move aimed at streamlining operations in the key domain.

3. The INS Sunayna, an Offshore Patrol Vessel based at Southern Naval Command entered Port Victoria, Seychelles on Saturday last week, in the company of Seychelles Coast Guard Ship (SCGS) Zoroaster.

The INS Sunayna’s visit to Seychelles aimed at further strengthening the camaraderie and mutual cooperation between the two navies in line with the vision of SAGAR (Security & Growth for All in the Region).

4. The Indian Navy is going to hold trials in Spain to test the critical equipment for its Project 75 India to get six advanced submarines by the end of this month, Spanish firm Navantia said.

5. The Indian Army has reviewed the Agnipath scheme and has made several recommendations to improve it. These include increasing the percentage of Agniveers, who join regular service after completing 4 years, from the current 25 percent to 60-70 percent.

The Indian Army suggested increasing the service period from 4 years to 7-8 years. Additionally, they recommended increasing the entry age for Agniveers in the technical field to 23 years. They also suggested that ex-gratia should be provided for disability during training and that exit management should be handled by a professional agency. Moreover, if an Agniveer dies in war, their family should receive a subsistence allowance.

6. In a big boost for Made in India in defence, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Monday said the Defence Ministry has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH). The tender is expected to be worth over Rs 45,000 crore with helicopters to be acquired by the Indian Air Force and Indian Army.

7. *Submachine Gun Made by Hyderabad Company Set to be Inducted by Army* : Lokesh Machines Ltd, a CNC machines maker, has bagged an order for 550 ASMI submachine guns (SMGs) worth Rs 4.26 crore from the Northern Command of the Army.

8. The Indian Air Force’s first multinational air exercise, Tarang Shakti-2024, will be held in August, and is likely to see the participation of ten countries, in addition to a few others acting as observers.

9. The Indian Army has launched a first-of-its-kind skin bank facility that aims to revolutionise the treatment of severe burn injuries and other skin-related conditions for service personnel and their families.

The defence ministry in a statement on Tuesday said the skin bank will be staffed by a team of highly-trained medical professionals, including plastic surgeons, tissue engineers and specialised technicians.

The Army Hospital (Research and Referral) announced the opening of the skin bank facility, a first-of-its-kind to be established within the Armed Forces Medical Services.
