DRDO counter drone technology

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. The Defence Research and Development Organisation and other agencies are working on indigenous counter-drone technology, and it will be available soon, Union home minister Amit Shah said on 17 Jul (Saturday) & added that all gaps in India’s border fencing will be covered by 2022.

2. Boost for Navy as delivery of MH-60R Seahawk multi-role helicopters begins:
The Indian Navy was handed over its first two MH-60R Seahawk multi-role helicopters (MRHs) in a ceremony held at San Diego, the US. It strengthening the India-US defence relationship. First batch of Indian crew is currently undergoing training in US.

3. Helicopters are being procured under foreign military sales from US at an estimated cost of USD 2.4 billion. Indian Cabinet had cleared purchase of these helicopters from USA in February 2020 before historic visit of then US President Donald Trump.

4. UAE-based carrier Etihad Airlines has extended its flight suspension from six countries including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and India until July 31.

5. Mumbai international airport now offers direct flights to Maldives (Male) by IndiGo and GoFirst with effect from July 15, 2021.

1. Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani slams Pakistan for Afghan crisis.

2. Afghanistan Security Forces Re-occupy Three Provinces From Taliban Terrorists. The three provinces include Saighan and Kahmard districts in Bamiyan and Chakhansur districts in Nimroz.

3. Today is International Nelson Mandela Day is observed (18 July) every year. The day celebrates Mandela’s life and legacy in a sustainable way that will bring about the needful changes.

4. The World Health Organization has proposed a fresh coronavirus investigation in China and an audit of its labs over the origin of the virus.

5. Devastating floods have killed nearly 150 people in Europe, most of them in western Germany where stunned emergency services were still combing the wreckage.

6. Representatives of the Afghan govt & the Taliban met in Doha for peace talks.

7. The Taliban, fighting with Afghanistan forces to take control of a large part of the war-torn country, has issued a statement ordering local religious leaders to give them a list of girls over 15 years of age and widows under 45, According to reports, the Taliban has promised for them to be married to their fighters and taken to Pakistan’s Waziristan, where they will be converted to Islam and reintegrated.

8. Daughter of Afghanistan’s envoy abducted, tortured in Pakistan : Afghanistan on Saturday strongly condemned the abduction of its envoy Najib Alikhil’s daughter in Pakistan and called upon Islamabad to identify and prosecute the perpetrators of the ‘heinous act’ at the earliest.
