1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced the onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala and its advancement into most parts of Northeast India.

The monsoon hit the country’s mainland two days in advance against its normal date of onset on June 1. “Southwest monsoon has set in over Kerala and advanced into most parts of Northeast India yesterday, 30 May, 2024,” the IMD announced. In 2023, the southwest monsoon had set in on 8 June.

2. Heavy rain continues to last Kerala with severe waterlogging being reported in many districts. Orange alert has been issued in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam while all other districts remain under yellow alert.

3. Campaigning ends for seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha elections. 57 Parliamentary Constituencies across seven states and a Union Territory to go to polls on Saturday.

4. Assembly elections to 42 seats in Odisha along with by polls to six assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh to be also held in this phase.

5. The flash flood continues to wreak havoc in Manipur. Imphal City has been badly affected by the flood. Most of the roads leading to Imphal town have been submerged.

6. PM Modi reached Kanyakumari on 30 May evening on a three-day visit to Tamil Nadu. PM Modi is meditating at Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari. He will meditate at the Memorial till Saturday.

7. *Government Raises Retirement & Death Gratuity Limits To Rs 25 Lakh* : The maximum limit of retirement gratuity and death gratuity has been revised by the government from 20 lakh to 25 lakh rupees. Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has issued an official memorandum in this regard. It said, the revised limit will come into effect from 01 Jan 2024.

8. Yesterday was Hindi Journalism Day (Hindi Patrakarita Diwas). The journey of Hindi journalism began on 30 May 1826, with the publication of the first Hindi newspaper, ‘Udant Martand,’ started by Pt. Jugal Kishore Shukla. This day is dedicated to the special contribution of Hindi journalists working for public welfare, imbued with truth and courage.

9. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released an advisory for prospective students and parents informing them that Sangai International University, Churachandpur, Manipur has been removed from the UGC list of universities.

Sangai International University: The university cannot offer any UGC specified degree of Undergraduate, Postgraduate level including PhD.

10. The sale of liquor in Bengaluru will come to a halt in the first week of June due to MLC elections and the counting of Lok Sabha polls. The excise department and business establishments in the city are expected to face the heat. Liquor will not be served or sold between June 1 and June (except June 5) in Karnataka.

1. Suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, facing allegations of sexually abusing several women, was arrested by the SIT probing the case, minutes after he landed from Germany at the Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru.

2. In Chhattisgarh, security forces have arrested 16 Maoists from different places of Bijapur district. Police claimed that the arrested Maoists were involved in cases of IED blast and digging up of roads to prevent movement of security forces in the area.

Enforcement Directorate-ED has attached properties worth over 291 crore rupees belonging to companies of amusement parks located at Great India Place Mall in Noida, Rohini area in Delhi, and Daulatpur village in Jaipur. As many as 22 people were killed and at least 50 were injured after a bus fell into a gorge in Jammu’s Akhnoor on Thursday. The bus, which was carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, was overcrowded and had over 80 passengers on board.

Prime Minister Modi announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees to the next of the kin of each deceased and 50 thousand rupees to the injured.

1. The Insurance Regulatory and Development of India (IRDAI) recently put out a very important statement that aims to make health insurance services in India more efficient and effective. This change is meant to make the cashless claim process easier and faster for policy holders and to make insurance companies follow strict reaction times.

2. In a strategic move to improve liquidity in the commodity derivatives market, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has reduced the deliverable period for commodity derivatives from the previous 5 days to 3 days. This regulatory change is set to take effect from 1 July, 2024.

4. Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has issued new guidelines that reduce the engagement period of statutory auditors with insurance companies from 10 years to 4 years.

5. The Income Tax department has established the Cost Inflation Index (CII) for the financial year 2024-25 at 363. This index is crucial for taxpayers as it aids in computing long-term capital gains arising from the sale of various capital assets, including immovable property, securities, and jewellery.

6. The RBI has imposed strict business restrictions on Edelweiss Group’s lending and asset reconstruction arms due to concerns over loan manipulation and structured transactions aimed at circumventing.

7. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has levied a penalty of Rs 36.38 lakh on HSBC Limited for breaching regulations outlined in the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Specifically, HSBC failed to adhere to reporting requirements under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme of FEMA, 1999.

8. The RBI imposed penalties on ICICI Bank and YES Bank for violating regulatory norms related to their financial positions as of 31 March, 2022.
