1. Tamil New Year (Puthandu) will be celebrated on 14 April 2024. This day marks the beginning of the Tamil New Year and Tamilians all over the country celebrate this day with great enthusiasm and fervor. This day is celebrated on the first day of Tamil month, Chitterai as Tamil New year.

2. Just a week to go for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections (April 19), the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday reviewed preparedness for the one-and-a-half-month-long exercise, with over 350 election observers across the country. As many as 102 seats in 21 states will go to the polls on April 19.

3. Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram is enduring heavy rainfall, and the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority on its official X handle posted that the Central Meteorological Department has announced yellow alert in four districts. The districts include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha.

4. Baisakhi 2024, celebrated on April 13th, marks the founding of the Sikh Khalsa in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh. On the eve of Baisakhi, the Indian Minorities Foundation (IMF)-led Sikh delegation extended wishes to PM Modi and offered prayers at Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara for a successful continuation of his leadership in future.

5. PM Modi, while addressing a poll rally in Rajasthan on Friday, attacked the opposition parties for alleging that the BJP will “change the Constitution” if it wins the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. PM Modi said that his government revered it and even Babasaheb Ambedkar would not be able to abolish it now.

6. TRAIN TO SIKKIM: Railways completes mining in 10 out of 14 tunnels, sets August 2025 deadline to finish the Sivok-Rangpo Rail Project which will connect Sikkim with the rest of the country through a rail network for the first time.

7. Amid a spurt in fatal paragliding mishaps, the Himachal Tourism Department ordered the closure of all unregistered training schools operational in Bir-Billing here till further orders.

8. PM Modi on Friday pledged to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and hold Assembly elections — a rare promise betraying nervousness as the government battles fatigue with babudom in its Jammu bastion.

1. The two men who plotted and executed the blast that rocked Rameshwaram Café in Bengaluru last month on 01 March have been arrested from Kanthi in Bengal’s East Midnapore district.

The National Investigation Agency said that Mussavir Hussain Shazeb and Abdul Matheen Taha were caught after a joint operation by central intelligence agencies and police from Bengal, Karnataka, Telangana, and Kerala, they are the Residents of Karnataka’s Shivamogga district.

2. Prabhpreet Singh has been arrested by the Punjab Police from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Khalistan Zindabad Force is a banned terrorist outfit. Prabhpreet Singh is accused of recruiting and funding a terrorist module in Germany.

3. A Delhi court sent Bharat Rasthra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha to CBI custody till April 15 in the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. Kavitha, 46, was arrested by the CBI in Tihar jail, where she was lodged after her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to the alleged scam.

4. Delhi court issued notice to the ED and the CBI on AAP leader Manish Sisodia’s plea seeking interim bail in excise cases for campaigning in general elections. The CBI as well as the ED have alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the Delhi excise policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, licence fee was waived or reduced and licences were extended without the competent authority’s approval.

1. The Defence Ministry has issued a tender to the public sector firm Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for purchasing made-in-India 97 TEJAS MK-1A fighter jets expected to be worth over ₹65,000 crore.This is set to be the largest order for indigenous military hardware to be placed by the Indian government ever.

2. Andaman and Nicobar Islands are undergoing a significant upgrade in military infrastructure, including the modernisation of airfields and jetties, enhancement of logistics and storage capacities, improvement in troop accommodations, and establishment of a strong surveillance system.

3. Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army conducted a training exercise, involving the firing of anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) at a super high-altitude area of 17,000 feet in Sikkim on Thursday. Missile-firing detachments from mechanised and infantry units of the entire Eastern Command participated in the training exercise.

4. India will take delivery of two Russian-made warships in the next few months, as the two countries work around US sanctions that created difficulties in paying for Russian weapons systems.

According to senior Indian officials, One ship is likely to be handed to the Indians in September, with another being delivered early next year. The delivery of the ships are two years behind schedule due to the war in Ukraine.

5. Admiral R Hari Kumar, the esteemed Chief of Naval Staff, recently embarked on a farewell visit to the Western Naval Command, spanning from April 9th to April 10th. The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R. Hari Kumar, is set to step down on superannuation on April 30 when Vice-Admiral Tripathi will be the senior-most Naval officer. All three Services will get new Chiefs this year.

6. Major Bhuvan Upadhyay of the Bogra Brigade has been adjudged the Best International Student at the prestigious Junior Command Course held at the Sri Lanka Army War College. Competing against a diverse group of 120 officers from various countries.
