1. President Smt. 7. National Science Day, NSD2024 being celebrated today. The theme this year is “𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐤𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭”. On this day in 1928, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman discovered a phenomenon of the scattering of photons. National Science Day is observed on February 28 to honour the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’ by Sir CV Raman.
8. Shafiqur Rahman Barq, a senior leader of the Samajwadi Party and MP representing Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, breathed his last at a private hospital in Moradabad at the age of 94.
9. Raja Venkatappa Naik, the 64-year-old Senior Congress MLA from Karnataka’s Surpur, passed away due to a heart attack at a private hospital in Bengaluru.
10. Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar will be the new Lokpal of the country. President Droupadi Murmu appointed him along with six members.

1. The Centre has extended the ban on ‘Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir’ for five more years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The last ban on the ‘Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir’ was imposed on 28 February 2019, days after the Pulwama attack (14 Feb 2019).
2. Bulldozers were back in action in Akbar Nagar on Monday to take the Kukrail riverbed back from encroachers as demolition resumed in the light of the fact that the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court’s stay order would not apply on those houses/ shops whose occupants haven’t approached the court after being provided time for the same. Lucknow Development Authority official says 277 houses, whose occupants have not moved court, will be demolished.
3. SANDESHKHALI VIOLENCE : The West Bengal police on Monday received nod from the Calcutta High Court for the arrest of TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh who is accused of raping women at gunpoint and extorting tribal lands in Sandeshkhali. While hearing the case, the Calcutta High Court Justice clarified that there is no stay on the arrest of the politician and the police would need to arrest him in the criminal cases registered against him.
4. Ministry of Railways has issued a clarification regarding fake recruitment notification for four thousand two hundred eight posts of Constable and 452 Sub-inspectors in Railway Protection Force (RPF) on website ‘RTUEXAM.NET.’ In an official release, the Ministry said that no such notification has been issued by RPF or the Ministry on their official websites or through any print or electronic media.
5. The Supreme Court on Tuesday restrained Patanjali Ayurved from advertising its herbal products as permanent cure for incurable diseases, saying “the entire country is being taken for a ride and the government is sitting with its eyes shut”. The court issued contempt notices to the company and its managing director Acharya Balkrishna.

1. Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma has resigned as part-time non-executive Chairman of Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) ahead of the March 15 deadline to wind down its business.

1. Indian Army has inducted a 46-metre modular bridge into its force, enhancing its engineers’ bridging capabilities. The bridge, designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and produced by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), is a mechanically-launched single-span assault bridge. The bridges are designed for quick deployment and retrieval, aligning with the fast-paced nature of mechanised operations.
2. ISRO’S ADVANCES SEMI-CRYOGENIC ENGINE AND STAGE TEST FACILITY AT MAHENDRAGIRI: The new Semi-Cryogenic Integrated Engine and Stage Test facility (SIET) at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu, is a major boost to the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) plans for a reliable, home-grown semi-cryogenic engine for its launch vehicles.
Cryogenic engines, such as the one on the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), use a propellant combination of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. The semi-cryo system, on the other hand, uses refined kerosene (a rocket-grade version named ISROSENE by ISRO) and liquid oxygen. It is designed to provide heavy-lift capability to future space transportation systems like the New Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV). The SIET is capable of testing the SCE-2000 engine, various subsystems and the SC-120 rocket stage.
3. The French Army Chief, General Pierre Schill, met Army Chief General Manoj Pande on Tuesday and held discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two armies.
4. PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES FOUR ASTRONAUTS FOR GAGANYAAN MISSION : Group Captains Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair, Angad Prathap, Ajit Krishnan and Wing Commander Shubanshu Shukla have been selected as astronaut-designates for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight program, the country’s India’s first crewed mission to space. Their names were revealed during the visit of Prime Minister Modi at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. He also gave astronaut wings to the officers.
5. The concept of the Indian Army’s light tank project has been realised and is currently undergoing trials, according to Jayant D Patil, adviser to CMD, Larsen and Toubro.
6. Adani Defence & Aerospace on Monday inaugurated an ammunition facility in Kanpur and a missile complex in Hyderabad. The Kanpur facility was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Adani Group representative and other government officials.
