1. Rejecting Canada’s allegations of Indian interference in the country’s elections as ‘baseless,’ India on Thursday said it is not India’s policy to interfere in the democratic process of other countries.

2. INDIA-MALDIVES ROW: MUIZZU CHANGES TUNE. Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, who is determined to remove Indian troops from the country, appears to be moderating his stance a bit under pressure from the public and opposition parties, says Indian troops cannot be removed with ‘short tempers’ Muizzu’s verbal attack on India has upset his countrymen and opposition parties, who believe the Maldivian President should not have gone so far as to call New Delhi a ‘bully’.

3. French Aircraft Manufacturer Airbus awarded the biggest export order of aircraft door to be manufactured in India. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia announces the export order along with Airbus India President Remi Maillard.

4. India ranks 38th out of 139 countries in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index Report (LPI) 2023, marking a notable improvement of sixteen places from its position of 54 in 2014.

7. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will attend the 7th Indian Ocean Conference in Australia’s Perth scheduled to begin on Friday with the theme “Towards a Stable and Sustainable Indian Ocean.”The two-day conference is set to be held on February 9, 10 in Perth.

8. Russia’s Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, visited the construction sites of Units 3-6 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant on Wednesday in Tamil Nadu.

1. PAKISTAN ELECTIONs : Pakistan voted to elect its new government on Thursday. The polling started at 8.00 AM and continued without any break till 5:00 PM. A countrywide public holiday was declared to enable more than 12 crore voters to cast their ballots. Counting of votes began following the conclusion of the polling and the results of individual polling stations started to pour in after the mandatory one-hour restriction ended. Candidates backed by Imran Khan’s party PTI have claimed victory as trends started to come in.

Total 266 National Assembly seats were up for grabs out of 336. A party must win 133 seats out of 265 being contested to form the next government.

Despite assurances from Pakistan’s caretaker government, the credibility of the country’s most expensive general elections was called into question with the suspension of cellular networks, restricting the movements of voters, terrorist attacks, and curbing media coverage.

2. Iceland volcano erupts for second time this year.
Iceland’s Meteorological Office has said the Sylingarfell volcano, near Grindavik, is erupting again. Eruption in Reykjanes peninsula disrupts hot water supply for 20000 people as lava edges closer to Svartsengi power plant.

3. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has appointed Olzhas Bektenov, his chief of staff, as the new prime minister. Bektenov, aged 43, previously headed the state anti-corruption agency and assumed the role of presidential administration head in April 2023.

4. Warships from the US, Australia, and Japan conduct joint drills in the South China Sea, challenging Beijing’s sovereignty claims. The exercises, involving guided-missile destroyers and combat ships, aim to promote transparency and freedom of navigation.

5. One security personnel was killed in an attack on a security forces vehicle in Pakistan’s Dera Ismail Khan on Thursday. Assailants attacked the vehicle which was on election duty.
