1. The Indian ambassador to Qatar and the embassy officials met with the eight detained veteran navy officials and a legal team is looking into the appeal aspect as 60 days have been provided to file an appeal, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

4. Top US officials bid farewell to outgoing Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The event was hosted by the US-India Business Council (USIC) in Washington on Wednesday.

5. External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar will lead the Indian delegation at the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to be held in Kampala, Uganda on January 19-20.The Summit will be preceded by deliberations at the Ministerial and Senior Officials levels.

6. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud is scheduled to leave for New Delhi on February 7 to further strengthen India- Bangladesh relations. This will be his first bilateral visit after Sheikh Hasina entrusted him as Foreign Minister of Bangladesh in her new government.

7. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday met his Maldivian counterpart Moosa Zameer in Uganda’s capital Kampala and the two leaders had a “frank conversation” on ties between the two countries.

1. Seven people, including four children, were killed in air strikes by Pakistan into Iranian territory on Thursday.

Pakistan launching retaliatory strikes inside Iran, a day after Iranian forces attacked what it said were militant bases inside Pakistan territory could be a deliberate move by Islamabad to create Shia-Sunni conflict, according to experts.

2. The Philippine Defence Secretary has called out a Chinese official for insulting President Ferdinand Marco Jr and the Filipino nation with his “low and gutter-level talk.”

Highly undiplomatic comments from China, which warned Philippine ” Not To Play With Fire,”.

The development followed after President Ferdinand Marcos on Tuesday sent Taiwanese President-elect Lai Ching-te a congratulatory note on his victory in the recent polls.

3. Pakistan Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar who is currently in Davos to attend the 54th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum has decided to cut short his visit in view of the ongoing Iran-Pakistan retaliatory strikes.

4. Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal left for Uganda, leading a Nepali delegation to attend the 19th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The NAM summit is being held in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, on January 19-20.

In a written filing, Trump’s lawyers called on the court to reverse a first-of-its-kind Colorado Supreme Court decision that said Trump should not be on the state’s Republican primary ballot because of his role in the events that culminated in the January 6, 2021 The justices are hearing arguments February 8 in a case that both sides say needs to be resolved quickly so that voters know whether Trump, the leading Republican candidate for president, is eligible to hold the presidency. The court is dealing with the dispute under a compressed time frame that could produce a decision before Super Tuesday on March 5, when the largest number of delegates are up for grabs in a single day, including in Colorado.
