1. MAKAR SANKRANTI is an Indian festival that marks the end of winter solstice and transition of the sun from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere. People celebrate Sun’s transit from Dhanu rashi to the Makara rashi (zodiac sign Capricorn), by paying their respects to the Sun God and offering prayers for a good harvest season. Though with contrasting names and festivities in different regions, India will come together to celebrate this auspicious festival.

2. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu will be on a three-day visit to Meghalaya and Assam from 15 Jan 2024, Monday. On the first day of her visit, the President will inaugurate the Meghalaya Games at the PA Sangma Stadium in Tura.

3. Cold to severe cold wave conditions are likely to continue over the plains of Northwest India during the next three days, and decrease thereafter.

4. PM Modi will release the first installment to one lakh beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) on 15 Jan 2024, Monday through video conferencing.

5. PM Modi will be on a two-day visit to Andhra Pradesh and Kerala from 16 Jan (Tuesday) to launch several development projects worth more than ₹4,000 crore in Kochi, including the New Dry Dock and International Ship Repair Facility at the Cochin Shipyard Limited.

6. The government has invited nominations for Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar-2024 in the field of Science, Technology, and Innovation. The awards will be announced on 11th May on National Technology Day.

7. RAJASTHAN BANS LIQUOR ON 22 JAN: In view of pran pratishtha ceremony at Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22, the Bhajan Lal Sharma government in Rajasthan Sunday declared consecration day as a ‘dry day’ across the state.

8. Over 22.6 million students have registered for the 7th edition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha 2024’ to be held on the 29th of this month.

9. Union Ministers and several BJP leaders on 14 Jan 2024, Sunday took part in a cleanliness drive at the pilgrimage sites in the national capital.

10. Delhi Schools will re-open for Nursery, KG and Primary classes from 15 Jan 2024, Monday. In an order, the Education Department said that all students of Delhi Government, Government Aided and Recognized Private Schools will join back in physical mode.

11. In view of the prevailing weather conditions, bone-chilling cold, and dense fog across the Jammu region, the Directorate of School Education, Jammu today announced a further extension of winter vacations for schools located in the Summer Zone of Jammu Division. The Directorate has prolonged the winter break for both Government and Private recognised schools. The extended vacation period is now in effect until 17 Jan, 2024.

12. In a setback for Congress in Mumbai ahead of Lok Sabha polls, former Union minister Milind Deora on Sunday quit the party “to walk the path of development” and joined the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, ending a “55 years association” of the Deora family with the Grand Old Party.

13. The Indian National Congress kicked off the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from the district of Manipur on 14 Jan 2024, Sunday. The yatra was flagged off by AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will lead the yatra. The yatra will cover 110 districts of 15 States of the country.

14. Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh launched the ‘Doctor on Wheels’ ambulance in the Ramnagar tehsil of Jammu’s Udhampur district. The initiative, inspired by the Prime Minister’s Digital Health Mission, will provide people expert medical consultation at their doorsteps.

15. Call for Nominations announced under Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2024 in the field of Science, Technology, and Innovation. The awards shall be announced on National Technology Day (11 May 2024).

16. The Central Government has approved the appointment of Ritu Goswami as Director (Technical) of Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) Limited.

1. Union Minister for Commerce Piyush Goyal said that the Government is not considering any proposal to lift the export curbs on wheat, rice, sugar and onions.
