How birds hatch their eggs?
Incubation means adding heat to the eggs and birds do this by molting feathers from their lower abdomen so the skin is exposed. This “incubation patch” becomes infused with blood so that body heat can be transferred to the eggs. One or both parents may incubate. … Chicken eggs from the store are good for six weeks or so.
To keep the eggs warm, a special warm patch grows on the parent birds’ tummies. Some of their feathers drop out so that the warm skin touches the eggs. This is called a ‘brood patch’. Different birds sit on their eggs for different lengths of time.
