Rabindranath Tagore

First Noble Prize Winner of India,- Rabindranath Tagore for the Noble Prize in Literature, 1913.
He was also the first Asian to get the Prize. Poet Rabindranath Tagore won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 for his collection Gitanjali published in London in 1912.

Died: 7 August 1941, Jorasanko Thakurbari, Kolkata. India’s National Anthem, ‘Jana Gana Mana’, is an adoption from the writings of the poet and playwright, Rabindranath Tagore.

“Jana Mana Gana” was originally written in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore. “Jana Gana Mana” is the national anthem of India.
Some people said Tagore had penned the words to welcome King George V who arrived in India the day the song was first sung i.e. December 27, 1911.
