Israel Palestine war: Israeli army says over ‘500 Hamas targets’ struck overnight in Gaza
Israeli air strikes and artillery shelling struck more than 500 targets belonging to the Hamas and Islamic Jihad militant groups in the Gaza Strip overnight, news agency AFP said. The death toll in Israel and Gaza has already soared above 1,100 and more deaths are expected in the war. Another 1,990 people have been wounded since fighting began on Saturday (October 7), according to Gaza Hamas-controlled health ministry. The fierce battle with Israel started after the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas fired thousands of rockets into Israel in a surprise dawn assault. Declaring a “state of war” war, Israel said it aims to evacuate residents around Gaza within 24 hours as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of a “long and difficult” war ahead against the Palestinian militant group.

5. Amid the ongoing India-Canada standoff, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on 7 October during a Parliamentary Consultative Committee meeting said that the suspension of visas for Canadians is conditional and not a permanent decision.

6. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi to take part in ‘Asia Pacific Cities Summit’ in Australia. The ‘Asia Pacific Cities Summit’ is scheduled to take place in Brisbane from October 11-13.

7. Sri Lanka will host the pivotal Council of Ministers Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) on October 11, which will be participated by senior leaders of 16 countries, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar,

1. The war between Israeli forces and the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas escalated further with Lebanon’s Hezbollah also joining the Hamas in its attack over Israel. Nearly 1,000 casualties have been reported so far on both sides.

The Israeli government said, more than 600 Israelis have been killed since yesterday. It added that over 100 people have been kidnapped, and more than 2,000 injured.

3. The UN Security Council has called an emergency meeting. The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that US government has received reports about the death of several Americans in Israel and officials are trying to verify the reports.

4. World leaders have condemned the ghastly attack on Israel by Hamas terrorist group. US President Joe Biden voiced rock solid and unwavering support for Israel and warned against any other party hostile to Israel seeking advantage in this situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed solidarity with Israel and said that India’s thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families.

5. Death toll from strong earthquakes that shook western Herat province in Afghanistan has risen to 2,025.

Over 1,200 people have sustained injuries and over 1,320 homes were completely destroyed by the powerful tremors that jolted Afghanistan on Saturday.

6. A police officer opened fire on Israeli tourists in Egypt, claiming the lives of two Israelis and an Egyptian.
