rbi mpc opts for status quo keeps repo rate unchanged at 6 5 per cent

The RBI MPC unanimously decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent for the fourth consecutive time. The policy stance has also been left unchanged. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday announced the bi-monthly monetary policy for the financial year 2023-24. “After a detailed assessment of the evolving macroeconomic and financial developments and the outlook, RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee decided unanimously to keep the Policy Repo Rate unchanged at 6.5%,” Das said.

1. Defence-related stocks such as Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), Bharat Forge Ltd, Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL, Cochin Shipyard Ltd, and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd rose on Thursday, after the defence ministry released its fifth indigenization list containing 98 items, to be procured by the armed forces from indigenous suppliers in a staggered manner over specified timelines.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit Paris next week, nearly three months after India and France announced a raft of defence cooperation projects including the joint development of jet and helicopter engines.

He is also likely to travel to Italy as part of the two-nation trip.

2. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Thursday spoke controversies surrounding the new revised rules for granting disability pensions to soldiers. He said: “The first and most important thing is that the provisions of the entitlement rules will be applicable to those persons who retire after September 21, 2022-23. There is no retrospective application of these provisions”.

The revised rules were released by the Department of Ex-Servicemen welfare on September 21.

3. The Indian Air Force (IAF) intends to replace its old four-engine Russian Il-76s with the aircraft that will be chosen in the MTA (Medium Transport Aircraft) competition.

4. INDIA TO GET 3 ISTAR AIRCRAFT UNDER ₹6,000-CRORE INDIGENOUS PROJECT. While the sensors and monitoring equipment will be indigenous, the aircraft will be a commercial or executive jet acquired from abroad.

The decision to go for an indigenous ISTAR comes after the air force cleared the acquisition of more indigenous ‘Netra’ early warning and control aircraft to its fleet.

5. Sikkim flash flood update: Ongoing search for missing Indian Army Personnel and aid for stranded civilians and tourists.

According to the PRO, Defence, Guwahati, the search for the missing Indian Army soldiers is focused downstream in areas around the Teesta Barrage.

7. The work on the BrahMos missile manufacturing site in Lucknow is likely to be completed by March next year.

The BrahMos is notably the fastest supersonic cruise missile in the world. It is a joint-venture between the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Russian Federation’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya, who together have formed BrahMos Aerospace.
