The lander module (LM), comprising the lander ‘Vikram’ and rover ‘Pragyan’, is expected to touch down on the lunar surface on Wednesday, August 23 at 18.04 hours, ISRO said.

2. India Meteorological Department (IMD), has issued orange alerts for Arunachal Pradesh, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Bihar expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next four-five days.

3. The four-day Youth 20 Summit- 2023 concluded on 20th August 2023 with the unanimous adoption of the Y20 Communique. The Y20 Summit was held at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh from the 17th to the 20th of this month.

4. PM Modi paid tributes to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary yesterday (20 Aug). Rajiv Gandhi, who served as the 7th Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989, was born on the 20th of August 1944.

5. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reconstituted the party’s Working Committee CWC. There will be 39 members in the Congress Working Committee.

6. The Central Government has granted 200 crore rupees as an advance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to the Himachal Pradesh Government. This aid aims to support relief measures during the current monsoon season.

7. The government will organize a three-day national workshop on the localization of sustainable development goals in gram panchayats.

8. In MANIPUR , the 32nd Manipur Language Day was observed on 20th August 2023 by different organisations marking the inclusion of Manipuri language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India on 20th August 1992.

9. In MANIPUR , the State Health Department has detected increased cases of Viral Conjunctivitis, especially among school-going children.

PORT BLAIR airport is gearing up for a significant development as operations at its new terminal building are scheduled to commence on Monday, PM Modi virtually inaugurated the new integrated terminal building at the Veer Savarkar International Airport in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on July 18.

11. In ANDHRA PRADESH, the ruling YSR Congress Party continued its winning streak in the AP Panchayat by-elections, the results of which were declared on Sunday. The bypoll was held in 64 villages for the posts of Sarpanch of 66 villages. Among them, 30 Sarpanch posts were unanimously won by the YSRC supporters.

12. J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday defended dismissal of government employees who support terrorism and said the administration would not hesitate in taking appropriate legal action against such persons.

Referring to Article 311 of the Constitution which deals with dismissal, removal or reduction in rank of civil employees in the Union or state governments.

Imams and muezzins, who give the call for prayer from mosques, from across the state are expected to attend the event.

15. A ‘mahapanchayat’ organised by Hindu Sena and a few other fringe groups, at News Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Sunday over the recent communal violence in Haryana’s Nuh was stopped by police midway after some speakers, including Yati Narsinghanand, allegedly delivered “inflammatory speeches”.

1. Forty-five Pakistani nationals from the Hindu community were detained in Gujarat’s Banaskantha for overstaying after their visas expired and their applications for long term visas were rejected, a police official said on Sunday. They were detained from Akoli village here and the process to send them back to Pakistan was underway.

2. Two passengers died and six fell sick on board the Patna-Kota Express train on Sunday. It was not immediately known what led to the deaths.

3. Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh returned to Rohtak’s Sunaria jail on Sunday after his month-long parole ended. The Sirsa-headquartered sect chief is serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples.

2. The revered Kalka-Shimla Railway (KSR), over 120 years old and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has suffered extensive damage due to heavy monsoon rainfall in Himachal Pradesh. A critical section between Jutogh and Summer Hill stations has been washed away.

1. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman to address Chintan Shivir in Kevadiya today. She will interact with the G20 India representatives of the Finance track.

2. According to depositories data, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) put in a net sum of 8,394 crore rupees in the Indian equities and 4,646 crore rupees in the debt market, taking the net investment in the Indian capital markets to 13,040 crore rupees during the August 1 and August 18 period.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued guidelines to lenders, directing them to categorize penalties for borrower defaults as ‘penal charges’ rather than ‘penal interest.’ The RBI’s guidelines emphasize that these charges must be “reasonable” and proportional to the breach of the loan agreement, without discrimination within specific loan/product categories.

4. RBI Mandates Flexible Options for Personal Loan Borrowers: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed regulated entities, including banks and NBFCs, to provide personal loan borrowers the flexibility to switch from floating to fixed rate interest regimes at the time of interest rate resets.

5. Govt raises onion buffer from 3 lakh MT to 5 lakh MT, onion to be sold at Rs 25 per kg from Aug 21.

Notice published in newspapers on Saturday, August 19, 2023, the bank says said the villa will be e-auctioned on September 25. Deol, whose real name is Ajay Singh Dharmendra Deol.

1. Indian Naval Ship INS Visakhapatnam on Sunday docked at Al-Shuwaikh Port as part of a three-day stay in Kuwait. The visit adds a new chapter to the bilateral navy-to-navy cooperation between India and Kuwait.

2. Indian Naval Ship INS Trikand received a warm welcome upon its arrival at Bandar Abbas, the port city of Iran on Sunday. The Indian Naval Ship is on a visit to Iran as part of the Indian Navy’s operational deployment towards cooperative maritime engagement with regional countries.

3. The Indian Navy submarine, INS Vagir, is on an extended-range deployment. The deployment which commenced in June 2023, will reach Fremantle, Australia today. The submarine, which is the Indian Navy’s fifth Kalvari class submarine, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in January 2023.

4. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Drone, TAPAS unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the DRDO crashes during trial in Karnataka’s Chitradurga on Sunday.

5. Researchers at IIT-Delhi have developed the world’s lightest bulletproof jackets, which are capable of stopping eight bullets fired from an AK-series rifle. The jackets, which weigh 8.2 kg, are over 2 kg lighter than the ones being used by the Indian Army.

6. Three Chinese geostationary orbit satellites manoeuvred into position over northern Australia to monitor July’s “Talisman Sabre” war games. Hundreds of smaller satellites are surveilling “Exercise Malabar”, which involves warships from the US, India and Japan. Experts say Beijing has extraordinary capability to gather intelligence on Australian military operations.

7. Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre officers interacted with students of National Cadet Corps officers and cadets from different states in Belagavi on Sunday.

This was part of a motivational tour and visit organised by the MLIRC. Officers and 247 cadets of NCC Directorate, Karnataka and Goa, participated in the programme.
