China stages war games in ‘stern warning’ to Taiwan. China held air and sea drills around Taiwan on Saturday. Taiwan said 42 warplanes had entered its air defence zone since 9:00 am (0100 GMT), and eight Chinese vessels took part in the exercises.

5. A US court has denied the writ of habeas corpus filed by Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana. The verdict has paved the way for US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to issue a certification for him to be extradited to India where he is facing a trial for his alleged involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
6. Singapore-born Indian-origin Tharman Shanmugaratnam and two Chinese-origin former executives of government-linked companies have qualified to run for the city-state’s presidential election on 1st September.
7. Sixteen Telugu students who arrived in the United States for Master’s courses during the week were deported for alleged discrepancies in visa documentation and other eligibilities for entry as per Student and Exchange Visitor Program.
Each of the students will be prohibited to enter the United States for a period of five years for being found inadmissible.
