Major League Cricket Sells Out Doubleheader in North Carolina on July 23

The Triangle region has embraced the impending arrival of world class professional cricket to North Carolina with incredible enthusiasm, as Major League Cricket announced today that its doubleheader matchup on Sunday, July 23 has already sold-out. MLC will bring many of the world’s top cricketers to Church Street Park, serving as one of two host venue for the inaugural MLC season to be held this summer. The groundbreaking American professional cricket championship will host its second weekend of action at the venue in the Triangle region from Thursday, July 20, to Tuesday, July 25.

Star players set to take part include Afghanistan T20 captain Rashid Khan, South African internationals Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock and David Miller, West Indians Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo, Australians Marcus Stoinis and Aaron Finch, England’s Jason Roy, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza and New Zealand’s Trent Boult.

Seven matches will take place at Church Street Park featuring all six MLC teams, opening with the Washington Freedom taking on the Los Angeles Knight Riders on Thursday, July 20, starting at 5:30 p.m. EST. Friday night under the lights will showcase the Seattle Orcas against the Texas Super Kings, while Saturday sees the Freedom take on the San Francisco Unicorns, with both games also starting at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday’s sold-out doubleheader features the Los Angeles Knight Riders taking on the Seattle Orcas at 1:30 p.m. and MI New York facing the Washington Freedom at 5:30 p.m. On Monday, the Unicorns play the Super Kings, followed by MI New York against the Seattle Orcas on Tuesday, with both games starting at 5:30 p.m.

Opened in 2015, Church Street Park is recognized as one of the best venues for cricket in the United States. Upgrades to the venue have added 1,550 seats, state-of-the-art broadcast infrastructure, additional parking and LED illuminated natural and artificial turf practice pitches and nets. The venue hosted the Minor League Cricket Championship finals weekend last August, with more than 3,000 fans in attendance.

MLC’s inaugural season features six teams – the Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings and Washington Freedom – with each boasting multiple global stars on their rosters alongside the best talent based in the United States, playing the explosive Twenty20 (T20) format of the game.
