Eid ul Adha

Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice is the second and the largest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam. It honours the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, as an act of obedience to God’s command. All the people of the Muslim community first offer prayers to Allah in the morning and few people even visit Mecca during Eid to seek blessings of Allah. After completing the prayer rituals, the ritual of sacrifice is performed. People then exchange greetings, and gifts and distribute food, clothes, and money to the needy and poor people.

1. President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar greeted all fellow citizens living in India and abroad on eve of Eid-ul-Adha.

2. The field assessment of Swachcha Survekshan 2023 is going to be launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Assessment from 1st July 2023.

3. General Manager of Indian Railways,Shobhan Chaudhry revealed that India’s first hydrogen-powered train will commence its journey from Jind in Haryana, India. Hydrogen trains, which rely on fuel cells to convert hydrogen and oxygen into electricity.

4. PM Modi will participate in the valedictory Ceremony of the centenary celebrations of Delhi University on the 30th of this month. Prime Minister will address the gathering on the occasion.

5. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, unveiled the new guidelines for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) called ‘Sagar Samajik Sahayog’ by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. The guidelines aim to empower ports to address local community issues more efficiently and collaboratively.

7. PM Modi reviewed twelve projects worth over one lakh 21 thousand crore rupees spread across 10 states and two Union Territories. The projects were reviewed during the 42nd edition of the PRAGATI meeting chaired by the Prime Minister.

8. Union government has given approval for ratification of the Headquarters Agreement (HQA) between Government of India (Gol) and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) signed on 22nd August, 2022.

9. Gujarat government signed a MoU with American chipmaker firm Micron Technology for a semiconductor assembly and test facility at Sanand in Ahmedabad district.

10. PM Modi will inaugurate the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress (ICC) on 1st of next month at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

11. Ministry of Home Affairs today announced that the online nominations for Padma Awards 2024 will be open till 15th September this year. The nominations will be released on the occasion of Republic Day next year.

12. Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is organising the sixth ‘Divya Kala Mela’ from 29 June to 5 July in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

13. Chhattisgarh Cabinet Minister TS Singh Deo has been appointed the Deputy Chief Minister .

14. Punjab govt to open 1,000 anganwadi centres, recruit 6,000 helpers.

15. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday extended its “in-principle support” to a Uniform Civil Code but said it should be brought in with a consensus after extensive consultations with stakeholders.

16. Andhrapradesh APSRTC managing director Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao on Wednesday said retired employees of the corporation will start getting higher pension following a decision taken by the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

17. The Met department on Wednesday evening forecast heavy to very heavy rains in six districts of Maharashtra, issuing an ‘orange alert’.

1. A road accident took place in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh. Many people have been reported dead after a DCM vehicle overturned in a horrific road accident.

2. BHIM ARMY leader Chandra Shekhar Aazad was injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on his vehicle in Deoband, in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday.

3. Six people, including two children, were killed and 15 others were injured after a chariot came in contact with an overhead high-voltage electric wire during ‘Ulta Rath Yatra’ in Tripura’s Unakoti district on Wednesday.

4. Delhi court on Wednesday sent real estate developer Supertech’s Chairman RK Arora to Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till July 10.

5. Two men were sentenced to death by a special court in West Bengal’s Jhargram district on Wednesday for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl.

1. The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) is set to host an extraordinary exhibition titled “Banking on World Heritage.” This unique exhibition, curated by Ms. Rukmini Dahanukar, founder of ‘Money Talks’ and an independent scholar, will showcase banknotes featuring world heritage sites listed by UNESCO.

2. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed penalties on Standard Chartered Bank, four credit bureaus, and seven cooperative banks for various violations. Standard Chartered Bank was fined ₹30 lakh for non-compliance with KYC directions. The credit bureaus, including Experian, TransUnion CIBIL, Equifax, and CRIF High Mark, faced penalties totaling ₹1 crore for inadequate maintenance of accurate credit information.

3. Union Cabinet approves schemes for farmers worth over 3.7 lakh crore rupees; Hikes sugarcane fair and remunerative price to 315 rupees per quintal for 2023-24 season.

4. SEBI has said it will reduce the listing timeline after an initial public offering (IPO) to three days after the closure of the issue from the present six days. The revised timeline shall be made applicable in two phases – voluntary for all public issues opening on or after September 1 and mandatory on or after December 1, 2023.

5. Equity investors became richer by ₹3.43 lakh crore in two days of market rally that saw Sensex touching the record 64,000-mark in intra-day trade on Wednesday. Sensex surged 499 points to settle at its life time closing high of 63,915.42 points on Wednesday.

6. RBI on Tuesday notified Mahalaxmi Cooperative Bank Limited, Dharwad, Karnataka as a non-banking financial institution (NBFI) after cancelling its banking licence dated March 23, 1994. The licence cancellation is effective from close of business on June 27

7. Rohit Jawa took charges as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FMCG major Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL).

1. Allahabad High Court said that if the exhibition of ‘Adipurush’ is stopped, people whose feelings have been hurt will get relief. The court mentioned that theatre owners should be thankful that people didn’t vandalise the properties after watching the film. The court also added that some of the scenes felt adult in nature, which makes the film a difficult watch.

2. Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi has made his acting debut with a role in a TV series. He starred in the opening episode of the second season of ‘Los Protectores’ (‘The Protectors’), an Argentine comedy drama show

3. Singer John Legend and his wife, model Chrissy Teigen revealed that they have welcomed their fourth child, a baby boy, via surrogacy.

4. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit said ’72 Hoorain’ isn’t against any religion and is dealing with terrorism. Talking about the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) rejecting certification for 72 Hoorain’s trailer, Ashoke shared that CBFC had asked to remove few scenes in the film’s trailer but they didn’t object to them in the film.

5. Kerala actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, who was injured during a film shoot and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kochi, was discharged from the facility on Wednesday.

TAPAS 201 is a multi-mission UAV to carry out intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance roles for India’s three armed forces.

2. Three Rafale fighter jets of the Indian Air Force will take part in the Bastille Day flypast over the Champs Elysees in Paris on July 14.

3. PM Modi will attend this year’s Bastille Day Parade as the guest of honour in July. The tri-services contingent is also set to participate in the parade along with their French counterparts.
