1. The US Coast Guard says all five people on board the missing Titan submersible died after a “catastrophic implosion.” They said pieces of the sub were found on the ocean floor around 500 meters from the wreck of the Titanic.
2. Russia: Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin calls halt to Moscow advance. Troops from Russia’s Wagner mercenary group have reportedly started leaving the city of Rostov-on-Don, less than 24 hours after attempting a rebellion.
Earlier, the group’s chief said he had told his fighters to return to Ukraine to avoid bloodshed. Yevgeny Prigozhin will now move to neighbouring Belarus and charges against him and his troops will be dropped, Russian state media reports. It signals the end of a chaotic and extraordinary day in Russia.
The Wagner Group is a private army of mercenaries that has been fighting alongside the regular Russian army in Ukraine.
3. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will virtually attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting chaired by India on the 4th of July. Pakistan’s foreign office spokeswoman Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said.
4. Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered full support to Russian President Vladimir Putin on a phone call discussing the armed insurrection by the Wagner mercenary group in Russia.
5. Wagner mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin has agreed to stop the movement of his troops who are advancing to the Russian capital Moscow.
6. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin has urged the residents to not use cars and has declared Monday “non-working day” for most people. This comes after Wagner mercenary fighters appeared to be continuing to drive towards Moscow from southern Russia.
7. Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar informed parliament that the government removed all import restrictions that were initially imposed in December to address the country’s current account deficit.
8. The temperatures in Beijing in China exceeded 40°C for three consecutive days, setting a new record as this was the first time since 1951.
