Khalistani-gangster nexus: NIA raids over 100 locations across 6 states. Fresh leads on the activities of the gangsters and Khalistanis operating from north Indian states as well as abroad prompted the raids

1. PM Modi will inaugurate the International Museum Expo 2023 on 18th of May at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

2. Union Minister of State for Railways Darshana Jardosh flagged off the Indore-Puri Gangasagar Bhavya Kashi Yatra train through video conferencing in the series of Bharat Gaurav tourism trains from Indore.

3. Union Minister for Communications Ashwini Vaishnaw launched a Citizen Centric Portal named Sanchar Saathi Portal at a function in New Delhi on Tuesday through which mobile users can now track and block their lost mobile phones.

4. Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a training program on legislative drafting in New Delhi. The program aims to create a better understanding of the principles and practices of legislative drafting among officers of Parliament, State Legislatures, various ministries, statutory bodies, and other government departments.

5. Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar, who is in the race to become the next state chief minister, met party president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi on Tuesday. According to sources, Shivakumar expressed his desire to become the next CM to Kharge, saying that he helped the party rebuild in the state after their government collapsed in 2019.

6. Muslim leaders from the Sunni Ulma Board have demanded the post of Karnataka’s deputy chief minister be given to winning candidates from their community. They have also sought that five Muslim MLAs be made ministers with good portfolios like Home, Revenue, Health and other departments.

7. BRS president and Telangana CM K. Chandrashekar Rao, who called a meeting on Wednesday at Telangana Bhavan, is expected to give clarity on announcement of the party candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections and on having an alliance with the Left parties.

8. In Andhra pradesh, the Government hospitals to run OPDs in evening too. The DME has instructed that resident medical officers in charge of evening OPDs maintain separate registers.

9. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a new website, the UTSAH (Undertaking Transformative Strategies and Actions in Higher Education) Portal, and the Professor of Practice (PoP) Portal to promote quality education in India.

CRIME REPORT

1. At least nine people were killed and two others sustained critical injuries after a tempo carrying them was hit by a speeding milk truck container in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district on Tuesday.

2. In West Bengal, an explosion at an illegal firecracker unit at a house in a village near the West Bengal-Odisha border took place, it has killed nine people while 13 others are critically injured.

3. The two Hizb terrorists, accused in the Mirwaiz Farooq assasination case, were handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation, said the Jammu and Kashmir police.

1. Uttar Pradesh government has hiked the dearness allowance (DA) for its employees and dearness relief to its pensioners by four percent with effect from January 1 this year.

2. European Union regulators gave the green light for Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, one of the world’s largest gaming firms. The EU’s executive arm, the European Commission, approved the deal after Microsoft offered remedies in the emerging area of cloud gaming that would allay antitrust concerns.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

1. The Kerala Story movie has so far minted over ₹147 crore at the box office. Starring Adah Sharma, the film is inching closer towards the ₹150 crore club.

Opposition politicians have criticised the film, calling it propaganda. But the makers say the film is based on years of research and true events. The government of West Bengal & Tamilnadu states has banned the film, while two states – Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, both have made the film tax-free.

2. Gucci, the luxury fashion brand from Italy, has appointed Alia Bhatt as its first global ambassador from India. She will debut as the brand’s newest global ambassador at the Gucci Cruise 2024 show.

3. The documentary “Gauri”, directed by Kavitha Lankesh, has received the “Best Long Documentary Award” at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal 2023. The film is about journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh, who was assassinated in 2017.

4. Actress Esha Gupta made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival red carpet wearing a thigh-high slit gown by designer Nicolas Jebran. The actress attended the film festival as part of the Indian government delegation. The film festival, which will be held from May 16 to May 27, opened with Johnny Depp’s film ‘Jeanne Du Barry’.

5. Actress Priyanka Chopra has featured on 12 covers of Grazia magazine for the first time ever. These include Grazia UK, India, Malaysia, Latin America, Singapore, Germany, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Serbia, Bulgaria and USA.

6. Google will begin deleting accounts that have not been used or signed into for at least two years. Google said that inactive accounts are more likely to be compromised. The policy includes the deletion of content within Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar), YouTube and Google Photos.

1. Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma on Tuesday (May 16) took over as the Chief of Staff of the Indian Army’s Western Command.

2. Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit took over as the Deputy Chief of the Air Staff, according to the Minister of Defence. Ashutosh Dixit, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, was Commissioned in the fighter stream on December 6 in 1986.

3. Indian Army conducts Flood Relief Exercise Jal Rahat in Assam: Gajraj Corps of the Indian Army conducted a Joint Flood Relief ‘Exercise Jal Rahat’ at Hagrama Bridge on Manas River, Assam to validate joint drills and coordinate preparedness by multi-agency flood relief columns.

4. Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Defence, has reached a milestone with the signing of its 250th contract on Monday, officials said. This was also the first contract signed under Mission DefSpace, the ministry said in a statement.

5. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar co-chaired a review meeting with field officers over the security arrangements for the G20 meet to be held in the valley for the first time since the abrogation of article 370.
