🇮🇳 FACTS ABOUT INDIA🇮🇳

😳WHY❓❓❓

Why do we celebrate Kumbh Mela only after 12 years?

Demons and demigods churned the milky ocean to produce the nectar of immortality. Demigods knew that if the demons drank nectar and become immortal, then they will lose their rule over heaven forever.

So, When the pot containing nectar was produced from the milky ocean, demigods tricked the demons, took the pot and ran away to hide the pot from the demons. Feeling cheated, all demons in a rage chased gods for full 12 days and 12 nights.
The fight for the Kumbh i.e. the sacred pitcher between the Gods and demons continued for 12 divine days, which is considered to be as long as 12 years for humans. That is why the Kumbh Mela is celebrated once in 12 years.

Drops of nectar fell on haridwar on the sixth day, and on Allahabad on the 9th day and in Nashik and Ujjain on the 12th day. So, kumbh mela is celebrated in nashik and Ujjain in the same year or following year within a gap of six months whereas it is celebrated in haridwar and Allahabad after a gap of 6 years and 3 years respectively.
