A balanced diet

😳 *WHY?* ❓❓

*Why does an onion make you cry?*

When you cut an onion, you break its cells and release enzymes that convert sulphur compounds into a volatile gas called syn-propanethial-S-oxide. The gas rises to your eyes and dissolves in the thin film of water on the eyeball, forming a mild sulphuric acid that stings. Tear glands then pour out watery tears to wash the irritant away — that is why chopping onions makes your eyes water. Chilling the onion or cutting it under running water slows the gas and reduces the tears.
