📜 Which was India’s first hydroelectric power station?
Sidrapong Hydel Power Station, Darjeeling
Built on the slopes below Darjeeling in present-day West Bengal, the Sidrapong Hydel Power Station was commissioned in 1897 with a capacity of 130 kW to light the hill town. It is regarded as India’s first hydroelectric power station. It was followed in 1902 by the Shivanasamudra station on the Kaveri in Karnataka, India’s first major hydel plant, which supplied power to the Kolar Gold Fields.
