1. The Court has agreed to hear the Centre’s challenge to the appointment of Tadasha Mishra as Jharkhand DGP, with the Centre alleging that the prescribed selection procedure was not followed.

2. The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved judgment on pleas challenging the Delhi High Court’s November 2025 ruling that law students cannot be barred from appearing in examinations or continuing their academic pursuits solely on account of shortage of attendance.

3. The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court held that threatening a judge or attempting to influence judicial proceedings amounts to criminal contempt of court and found two advocates guilty.

4. Opposition leaders continued protests concerning the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Rahul Gandhi and other opposition MPs were detained during Wednesday’s demonstration.

5. Punjab elections: The Supreme Court has set aside elections in 50 Punjab municipal wards because of serious irregularities and ordered fresh elections within six weeks.

The Supreme Court has ordered fresh elections in Punjab’s 50 wards from Patiala and Moga districts. These include 28 wards of Patiala Municipal Corporation and 22 of Baghapurana and Dharamkot municipal councils in Moga district.

6. The National Medical Commission has barred doctors and hospitals from using AI-generated patient testimonials or unverifiable promotional claims under new ethical advertising guidelines.

At least three people, including two children, were killed after a four-storey building collapsed in North East Delhi’s New Seemapuri on Wednesday afternoon (October 7, 2026). 1. ✈️ Indian Air Force Day: India observes the 94th Indian Air Force Day today, marking the IAF’s establishment on 8 October 1932.

2. SAREX-2026 begins in Odisha
India’s 12th National Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise, SAREX-26, is being conducted off the Paradip coast. The Indian Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and other agencies are participating, with observers from 31 friendly countries.

3. The Ministry of Defence recently announced the launch of FSS-1 ‘Surya’ at Hindustan Shipyard, Visakhapatnam, strengthening the Indian Navy’s indigenous logistics capability.

4. India’s indigenous Akash air-defence system has entered the Central Asian market, with supplies to Turkmenistan reported; India has also supplied Akash to Armenia and Tajikistan.

5. Athletes from the Army Sports Institute (ASI), Pune, won 12 medals at the Asian Games, accounting for 60 per cent of the 20 medals won by Indian Army athletes. A total of 25 ASI athletes were part of the Indian contingent.
