1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Centenary Celebrations of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) today at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

2. New Delhi will host a textile conclave today to discuss emerging technologies in the textile sector. Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh will inaugurate the conclave.

3. The National Highways Authority of India, or NHAI, is conducting special quality inspections of 17 under-construction National Highway projects where the bid value was more than 15 percent lower than the estimated project cost.

4. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs), for all mandated Rabi crops for the Marketing Season 2027-28.

5. The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has informed that 1600 crore rupees have been approved for 41 Pharma and MedTech Innovation projects under the first round of the Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma MedTech Sector (PRIP).

6. Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy unveiled and digitally launched the Impact Report of the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) Industry Accelerator Project in New Delhi.

7. The Centre sanctioned more than ₹1,200 crore under PM-RKVY to 10 states and announced Khet Bachao Abhiyan from October 22 to November 30, focusing on soil health and balanced fertiliser use.

8. FASTag Annual Pass has crossed one crore passes issued since its August 2025 launch. The ₹3,075 pass offers one-year validity or 200 toll plaza crossings at about 1,150 plazas.

9. UIDAI launched five new initiatives at Aadhaar Samvaad Kolkata on Aadhaar Day 2026, including Face Authentication for ePDS, SWIK Portal 2.0 and a Sub-AUA/Sub-KUA framework.

10. The government of Gujarat has now reorganized the Porbandar forest division so that forest management could be improved and the rehabilitation of Barda as a second habitat of the Asiatic lions could be facilitated. This administrative restructuring has been undertaken following the natural arrival of Asiatic lions back in Barda after 143 years.

11. The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), in collaboration with the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) launched CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad in New Delhi. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said that the platform is an AI-enabled document translation solution developed by BHASHINI to support the translation of official CAG documents and audit-related reports.

12. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav today launched the Guidelines for the implementation of the National Coastal Mission (NCM) 2.0, in New Delhi.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested fugitive businessman Nirav Modi’s associate Sandeep Mistry following his extradition from the UAE in connection with a multi-million-dollar Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam

1. Three people died and three others were injured when a heavy crane tilted and capsized into a deep excavation pit on DBR Hospital Road in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh on 29 September 2026.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives in a mishap in Anand, Gujarat. Extending condolences to the bereaved families, the Prime Minister prayed for the speedy recovery of all those injured in the incident.

Five passengers were killed and five others injured after a bus collided with a truck on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway in Anand district .

1. The competition for one of India’s largest-ever naval procurement contracts has intensified in New Delhi, with leading international submarine manufacturers vying for a project valued at more than ₹83,000 Crores.The program centres on the Indian Navy’s long-delayed Project 75(I), which seeks the construction of six advanced conventional submarines equipped with Air Independent Propulsion technology.

2. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth today highlighted the vital role of Military Nursing Service (MNS) officers in supporting the Armed Forces Medical Services and the nation during war, natural calamity and peace times. Addressing the closing ceremony of centenary celebration of Military Nursing Service in New Delhi, Mr Seth acknowledged the exemplary service, professionalism and selfless dedication of the MNS officers.

3. ⚓ Naval Commanders’ Conference 2026
The second edition of the Naval Commanders’ Conference 2026 is being held in New Delhi from 29 September to 1 October. Defence leadership has stressed maintaining high readiness and strengthening maritime surveillance, particularly for protecting India’s maritime and energy-security interests.

4. The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) is celebrating its 279th Annual Day. New digital initiatives include integration of the Indian Army Financial Information System (IAFIS) with the SAKSHAM platform and the PRISM system for defence payments.

5. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Visakhapatnam on October 5, 2026, to bolster India’s defence infrastructure by participating in key naval and aerospace development milestones.

6. The 10th India-Republic of Korea Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) on Defence Industries and Logistics Cooperation was held in New Delhi.

India and South Korea have reaffirmed their close and growing defence ties to advance bilateral cooperation in defence production and logistics.This mutual commitment was reinforced during the 10th India–Republic of Korea Joint Committee Meeting on Defence Industries and Logistics Cooperation held in New Delhi.

Shivaji Ganesan
(1 October 1928 – 21 July 2001), was a legendary Indian actor, especially celebrated for his work in Tamil cinema.

He was born on 1 October 1928 in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu. His birth name was V. Chinnaiya Manrayar Ganesamoorthy.
He was renowned for his powerful dialogue delivery, expressive acting and versatility.
He received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1997 for his contribution to Indian cinema. He is remembered as one of the most influential actors in the history of Tamil cinema.

Ganesan was the first Indian actor to win the “Best Actor” award at an international film festival, at the Afro-Asian Film Festival held in Cairo, Egypt in 1960
