1. J&K Assembly seeks restoration of statehood — The Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly passed a resolution seeking the immediate restoration of full statehood to the Union Territory.
2. Bank strike deferred — The proposed three-day nationwide bank strike has been deferred after discussions between the Indian Banks’ Association and bank unions.
3. The Government launched Pashudhan Bima Portal in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh said that this initiative is aimed at making livestock insurance services more transparent, efficient, accessible and technology-driven.
4. Hyderabad-based TakeMe2Space plans to launch India’s first networked orbital data centre mission in 2028. The mission will use two 100-kilogram MOI (My Orbital Infrastructure) constellation satellites and a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch under the Waymaker 2 rideshare mission.
5. NMDC Ltd. commissioned an integrated iron ore processing, slurry pipeline, and pellet-making project worth ₹5,427 crore in Chhattisgarh on 27 and 28 September 2026. The project includes a new iron ore processing plant at Bacheli, a 15 million tonne per annum slurry pipeline, and a 2 million tonne per annum pellet plant at Nagarnar.
6. The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying is launching a Livestock Insurance Portal on 28 September 2026 in New Delhi. The portal is designed as a single digital platform for livestock insurance under the Livestock Insurance Scheme, with functions for policy issuance, claim processing, monitoring, and reporting.
7. Uttar Pradesh has set a target of increasing annual exports from about ₹2 lakh crore to ₹5 lakh crore by 2030. The target was announced on 27 September 2026 at the UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida. The export plan is linked to the state’s wider goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy.
8. India’s first LNG-powered train was flagged off on 27 September 2026 from Sabarmati Railway Station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The train uses a diesel-plus-LNG dual-fuel system and runs with two 1,400 HP Driving Power Cars converted at the Sabarmati Integrated Coaching Depot.
9. India’s first port-based e-methanol production facility is being developed at Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla, Gujarat. The project is a joint initiative of Deendayal Port Authority, with 76% ownership, and Assam Petro-Chemicals Ltd, with 24% ownership. The total investment for the project is ₹2,300 crore, and the planned production capacity is 150 tonnes per day.
10. The cultural heritage and sporting achievements of Tamil Nadu are being presented through 31 mementos in the PM Mementos e-Auction this year. The collection features sacred traditions, classical art, traditional craftsmanship, historic figures and sporting memorabilia from across the state.
11. Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is operating 10 direct electric-bus services to AIIMS Bilaspur.
12. Rabi-season preparations — Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called for coordinated planning and scientific assessment for the coming Rabi season. Central teams will visit Karnataka and Maharashtra to assess drought conditions.

1. UPI MDR decision — The Supreme Court has declined to stay the Centre’s decision to introduce a 0.4% Merchant Discount Rate on selected P2M UPI transactions above ₹2,000, scheduled from October 15.
2. The Supreme Court has agreed to examine the validity of the acquittal of the accused in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh case. The Court said it would examine the evidence and witness testimonies, but would not reopen the case against individuals whose discharge/acquittal is not under challenge.

1. In Jammu and Kashmir, five people were killed and seven others injured in a road accident on the Teetwal-Simari road in Karnah area of Kupwara district yesterday morning. The injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment and are said to be stable.
2. Renowned Sanskrit scholar and former principal of the Madras Sanskrit College, Mahamahopadhyaya R. Krishnamurthy Shastri passed away at his home on Sunday afternoon. He was 82. Family sources said he was active till the end. Even on Sunday, he had completed the Mahalaya tarpana.

1. KAZIND-2026 begins: A 60-member Indian Armed Forces contingent departed for Kazakhstan for the ninth India–Kazakhstan joint military exercise KAZIND-2026, scheduled from 28 September to 11 October.
2. The IAF’s multinational Exercise Tarang Shakti 2026 is being conducted at Jodhpur from 26 September to 12 October, with participation from seven foreign countries. The theme is “Power in Partnership.”
3. India’s TEJAS MK-2 medium-weight fighter prototype is now officially expected to fly no later than September 2027, while the stealthy fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) is targeted for its first prototype flight in September 2028, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed.
4. Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth has unveiled ‘SAMARTH’, a seven-point framework aimed at strengthening the Indian Army’s operational readiness for long-drawn, technology-intensive and rapidly changing conflicts.
5. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met a US House delegation in New Delhi to discuss the evolving India–US strategic partnership, with emphasis on defence industrial and technological cooperation.
6. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has joined hands with the CSIR-Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR-CGCRI) as the technology partner for a ₹50-crore project to develop indigenous, advanced lightweight bulletproof glass for armoured vehicles.
7. National counter-terrorism conference — Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the PRAHAAR – National CT Policy and Strategy conference in New Delhi, focusing on strengthening mechanisms to combat terrorism.
8. India and Fiji held the second India–Fiji Bilateral Joint Working Group meeting in New Delhi on September 28, 2026, to expand cooperation in defence, maritime security, and industry collaboration.
9. The Country yesterday observed the 10th anniversary of the surgical strikes that demonstrated to the world an example of the Narendra Modi government’s counter-terrorism policy. In 2016, on September 28-29 Indian Army carried out targeted surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK). The operation was launched as a direct and decisive military response to the Uri terror attack earlier that month, where 19 Indian soldiers lost their lives.
