1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu has arrived on a three-day visit to Gujarat yesterday. The President will present the 72nd National Film Awards at Ekta Nagar in Kevadia today.
2. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the third national conference of chiefs of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) on 22 September 2026 in New Delhi. The two-day conference is being organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and will focus on the Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026-29).
3. Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma performed the Bhumi Pujan and laid the foundation stone of the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) Advanced Radar Research Facility at Chandrapur in Kamrup Metropolitan district.
4. The 9th India International Water Week 2026 begins in New Delhi on September 22 and runs through September 26, bringing together international organisations, policymakers and water experts. The theme is “Climate Resilient Water Management.”
The 2nd phase of Population Enumeration under Census-2027 will start in Punjab from November 16th and will continue till January 4th, 2027.
5. NIT-Srinagar is set to become the country’s first National Institute of Technology to have a dedicated campus-based observatory equipped with a high-performance 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.
6. The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi, will organise the seventh edition of Nadi Utsav from Thursday to Saturday. This year’s festival focuses on the Yamuna River. It will explore the Yamuna not only as a life-giving river but also as a living stream of memories, culture, history and imagination.
7. The West Bengal government has begun the process of identifying land for the proposed Kalyani Greenfield Airport project, aimed at reducing the pressure on Kolkata Airport and further expanding air connectivity in South Bengal. Around 2,000 acres of land across nine mouzas, including Kalyani and Birpara, have been identified in the Nadia district.
8. The National Highways Authority of India has released new guidelines for the planning and designing of High-Speed Access controlled National Highways. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said, the guidelines will apply to all upcoming 4 and 6 lane Greenfield and Brownfield High-speed access controlled National Highways.
9. Gwalior is set to get Asia’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone with ₹5,500 crore investment, 18,000 direct jobs and 24–25 proposed telecom manufacturing units.
10. The 7th National Formulary of India (NFI) was launched on 21 September 2026 at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. Smt. Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilisers, unveiled the publication during the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week Campaign.
11. In Karnataka: The state is holding a special session, with the Kasturirangan report among the issues in focus; farmers’ protests are also reported.
12. In Kerala: Six districts are under an orange alert for heavy rain; the state is also using recycled plastic extensively in road construction.
13. In Andhra Pradesh: IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall from September 22–24, particularly in coastal districts, as a Bay of Bengal weather system approaches.

1. The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a plea seeking greater transparency regarding notices issued during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Delhi electoral rolls, including disclosure of reasons for notices.
2. Ayodhya Ram Temple donation case — Uttar Pradesh has informed the Supreme Court that the SIT will file its first chargesheet in the alleged donation-theft case on or before September 25.
3. The Telangana High Court has ordered status quo concerning the Full Tank Level (FTL) land dispute around Ameenpur Lake, restricting construction/development in the disputed area pending further proceedings.
4. The Enforcement Directorate has chargesheeted EaseMyTrip co-founder Nishant Pitti in the high-profile Mahadev online betting app money laundering case, alleging his role in channelling illegal betting proceeds into the Indian equity market.
5. Indian Railways has intensified ticket inspections; reports say 18 lakh passengers were detected without proper tickets, with ₹140.8 crore recovered in the latest enforcement drive.
6. There might be disruptions in banking facilities in India from September 28 till 30 due to the fact that the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has decided to organize a three-day nationwide strike in relation to the longstanding demand for a five-day banking week.

1. In Kolkata, West Bengal: A car caught fire on the Maa Flyover, causing traffic disruption for about 40 minutes. No casualties were reported.
2. Panchmahal, Gujarat: A state transport bus carrying around 30 passengers caught fire near Kalol bus stop. All passengers escaped and no casualties were reported.
3. In Bihar, six children drowned in floodwaters while taking a bath in Tareta Narayanpur village under Sultanganj police station in Bhagalpur district today. All the deceased children are reportedly between 10 and 12 years of age. They have been identified as residents of Ward Number 27 of Sultanganj Nagar Parishad.

1. The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹586 crore contract with Accurate Industrial Controls Pvt. Ltd. for indigenously developed Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for the Army’s T-72 and T-90 tanks. The APUs provide auxiliary electrical power for systems such as fire control and gun stabilisation.
2. 🇮🇳🇲🇳 Exercise Nomadic Elephant begins
The India–Mongolia joint military exercise Nomadic Elephant has commenced at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, strengthening military cooperation and interoperability between the two countries.
3. The Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO) plans to bring its 30kW-class directed energy weapon (DEW) nearer to production. The organization plans to release an Expression of Interest (EOI) in the next six months for seeking an industrial partner that would develop the system’s first-of-production model (FOPM).
4. The India–Japan bilateral air exercise Veer Guardian-2026 is scheduled to conclude at Jodhpur today. The exercise involved IAF aircraft including Tejas, Su-30MKI and Rafale, alongside Japan’s F-2A fighters
5. The Indian Air Force has announced the second edition of Exercise Tarang Shakti, scheduled at Jodhpur from 26 September to 12 October 2026. It will bring participating air forces together for aerial operations, tactical training and interoperability activities.

Indian Oil Corporation approved an investment of ₹2,448.70 crore for the Kochi-Kanyakumari-Thoothukudi Natural Gas Pipeline project on 21 September 2026. The pipeline will cover 424.65 kilometres and connect Kochi in Kerala with Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu through the Kanyakumari region.

3. Theja Rio, a filmmaker from Nagaland, India, has won the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026 with his film titled Angh. This is an important milestone for Naga and Indian cinema. The Konyak language film is one of the 12 films that have been selected for the competitive Platform Programme at TIFF.
