1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his thoughts with the people of the country and abroad in the Mann Ki Baat programme on Akashvani at 11 AM today. It will be the 137th episode of the monthly radio programme.

2. Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the centenary celebrations of former Karnataka Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde at a function organised in Bengaluru.

3. India’s monsoon deficit has widened to nearly 14%, despite better rainfall in August, with uneven rainfall remaining a concern.

5. The Haryana Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up four integrated waste-to-energy plants in the state. Once operational, these plants, located in the Hisar, Ambala, Faridabad and Gurugram clusters, will scientifically process a total of 5,000 tonnes of waste daily and generate 50 megawatts of energy. These plants are expected to become operational by October 2028.

10. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for rainfall over Odisha for the next two days. The Weather Department has also forecast heavy rainfall tomorrow in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh and Gangetic West Bengal.

1. The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Madhya Pradesh Unit, has seized over 66 lakh psychotropic tablets in a major inter-state pharmaceutical diversion case under Operation Vajra 2.0. The consignment was seized under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The operation also resulted in the arrest of one person and the seizure of a truck.

2. The Punjab Government has directed all state administrative secretaries and heads of departments to issue show-cause notices to employees who participated in the August 27 mass casual leave. The government has advised the concerned disciplinary authorities to take strict disciplinary action as per the rules against those who were unauthorisedly absent on that day.

3. The Department of Posts, Delhi Circle will hold a Monthly Dak Adalat on 18th next month at Meghdoot Bhawan, New Delhi for the settlement of grievances related to Postal Services.

4. Manoj Jarange Patil commenced an indefinite hunger strike at Antarwali Sarati in Jalna district on Saturday (August 29, 2026), reviving the Maratha reservation agitation with a set of demands directed at the State government.

21 Tamil Nadu tourists rescued in Nepal floods returned to Chennai.

they recounted the horrifying incidents during their travel to Mount Kailash on the fateful day. Out of the three vehicles in which the team was travelling, tourists from one vehicle managed to escape; though their vehicle overturned, they had managed by hanging on to trees and shrubs for more than two hours until they were rescued and brought to a temporary camp, after which they were brought to Delhi by helicopters. The tourists thanked the Centre and the State Governments for bringing them safely back to Chennai.

1. Murshidabad has become the first district in West Bengal to complete 100 per cent of the land handover process for the construction of fencing along the India-Bangladesh border. The district administration very recently handed over the remaining 28.65 acres to the BSF through a ‘Right of Possession’ for fencing a 3.86-kilometre stretch in Char Chandanpur and Hazrahati Mirganj.

2. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will address the Industry Conclave in Lucknow today, on the third and last day of his three-day visit to the city. The conclave is being organised under the PM Setu Yojana, where discussions will be held on topics related to skill development, entrepreneurship, and vocational education.

3. The Indian Navy has taken delivery of Samarthak, its first locally built Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV), constructed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) at its Kattupalli shipyard near Chennai. The vessel was delivered on Thursday, Aug. 27. More than 75% of the vessel’s components are made in India.

4. The Indian Navy is set to commission the second Diving Support Vessel (DSV) of the Nistar class, Nipun, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Aug. 31.
