New Delhi, August 27: Central Delhi Queens registered a thrilling three-run win over North Delhi Strikers in the Women’s Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026, holding their nerves in a tense finish.
Batting first, Central Delhi Queens managed 125/7 in 20 overs. Deeksha Sharma and Nidhi Mahto gave the team a steady start, putting together 27 runs for the opening wicket. However, both openers were dismissed in quick succession, leaving the Queens at 37/2.
Arushi Goel and Monika then joined hands and steadied the innings with a 44-run partnership. Their stand helped Central Delhi recover, but Goel was run out for 22 off 26 balls.
Monika continued to fight at one end and scored a valuable 47 off 42 balls before she was dismissed. The Queens struggled to build momentum in the final overs and finished on 125/7.
For North Delhi Strikers, Apeksha Anand was the standout bowler. She picked up an impressive four-wicket haul for just 17 runs in four overs.
Chasing 126, North Delhi Strikers got off to a slow start. They reached 65/2 by the 13th over, leaving themselves with a lot of work to do in the final seven overs.
Ayush Soni then tried to keep the chase alive and held one end together. She scored a fighting 51 off 40 balls, but her dismissal put North Delhi under further pressure.
With the required run rate climbing, North Delhi needed something special in the final overs. Reshika Beniwal and Archana found a few important boundaries and kept their team in the contest.
The equation eventually came down to six runs needed from the final three balls. Deeksha Sharma was given the responsibility of bowling the last over and kept her cool despite conceding a boundary off the first ball at the Arun Jaitley Stadium that will host international fixtures between India and Afghanistan next month.
She bounced back strongly and did not allow North Delhi to find the remaining runs.
