3. The Union Cabinet approved GOBARdhan, the National Circular Bioenergy Scheme, with a total outlay of 23,731 crore rupees. Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said this will create 1.5 lakh jobs. GOBARdhan marks a defining moment in India’s clean energy journey. It will transform the country’s abundant agricultural residue, cattle dung, press mud, municipal organic waste and other biomass resources into clean fuel, organic manure, rural income and national economic value.
4. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman moved the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for consideration and passing in Lok sabha. The Bill was passed amid din without any discussion. It seeks to amend the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, the Income-tax Act, 2025, and the Finance Act, 2026. The bill will replace the Income-tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, which was promulgated on 5th June this year.
5. Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said that the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has crossed 50 lakh beneficiary households in India.
6. NITI Aayog has released a report titled Reimagining Care: Strategies for Empowering Caregivers in Viksit Bharat@2047. The report envisions a comprehensive caregiving ecosystem as a key pillar of inclusive growth and social development while strengthening India’s potential as a global hub for skilled caregiving professionals.
7. In Jammu and Kashmir, the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is progressing smoothly, as lakhs of devotees from across the country have paid obeisance at the Holy Cave Shrine this year so far. The pilgrimage, which commenced on 3 July, witnesses thousands of pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey under a multi-layered security grid on a daily basis.
8. The Keralam government has decided to restore the charge of police stations to sub-inspectors, reversing the previous system under which Inspectors served as Station House Officers. The change will take effect from August 15.

10. Tamil Nadu announced the Vetri Vaanmagal scheme on 6 August 2026 in the 2026-27 Agriculture Budget. The scheme is designed to train women farmers in operating agricultural drones and to support drone pilot licensing in the state.
Scheme Features
The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, R. Vinoth, introduced the initiative for women farmers and other eligible participants. The programme will train 500 individuals, including 100 women, in drone operations and will assist them in obtaining drone pilot licences.
11. Telangana will begin distributing 1.05 crore newly sanctioned laminated Public Distribution System ration cards from 15 August 2026.
12. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning over Madhya Pradesh,Rajasthan, Kerala, Mahe, Odisha and Coastal and South Interior Karnataka.
The IMD said that heavy rainfall is also expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, East UttarPradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Meanwhile, Delhi,Himachal Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh are also likely to witness heavy rainfall.

1. Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu has debunked the claims stating that the Government plans to blend ethanol with Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) are completely false and irresponsible.
2. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has unearthed a syndicate involved in a sophisticated international tech-support fraud and extortion racket, operating through fake call centres and offices across Punjab and Delhi. The CBI conducted raids in the intervening night of 5th and 6th August at ten locations across Punjab and Delhi including a fake call centre running at the premises of the main accused (kingpin) at Mohali, Punjab.
3. Student protests over recruitment exam issues intensify in Jharkhand. The State Government has initiated efforts to break the deadlock. On the directions of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, a high-level committee comprising four ministers has been constituted to hold talks with the agitating students.
4. Supreme Court seeks responses on Centre’s proposal for computer-based NEET UG: The Supreme Court asked petitioners, including doctors’ association, to file their responses to the Centre’s affidavit stating that shifting NEET UG from pen-and-paper to a computer-based format is under active consideration. A Bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe scheduled the next hearing for August 19.
5. The Bombay High Court convicted former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal in the 2013 sexual assault case involving a former junior colleague and sentenced him to ten years’ rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of 10,21,000 rupees, which would be paid to the victim.

Sushma Swaraj (14 February 1952 – 6 August 2019) was an Indian lawyer, politician and diplomat who served as the 5th Chief Minister of Delhi, and also the Minister of External Affairs of India in the First Modi ministry from 2014 to 2019. She was the second person to complete a 5-year term as the Minister of External Affairs, after Jawaharlal Nehru.

1. India yesterday successfully test-fired the medium-range ballistic missile Agni-4 from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha.

During the meeting, the senior officials presented a detailed briefing on the Territorial Army’s mandate, role and key achievements to the committee members, who offered valuable suggestions to further strengthen the force and enhance its overall effectiveness.
3. The Indian Army is preparing for a major leap in its long‑range precision strike capability with plans to procure 150 extended‑range BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.Sources indicate that the deal, valued at approximately ₹10,000 crore, is expected to be signed in November.
