1. The Maharashtra Freedom of Religion Act, 2026, which is referred to as the anti-conversion law of the state, has been given the approval of President Smt. Droupadi Murmu, which was fighting the last constitutional requirement for the law to be enforced. However, the law will be valid only when the Maharashtra Government has released an official notification that indicates the commencement of the Act.
2. Rajya Sabha has passed the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill 2026. The Bill aims to further amend the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006. It aims to address payment delays and simplify dispute resolution.
3. In Karnataka, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered oath of office to 19 legislators at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru yesterday. Chief Minister D K Shivakumar who assumed office as Chief Minister on June 3rd along with 13 other ministers had a wait of around two months for the Cabinet expansion.
4. In Assam, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the disbursement of interim financial assistance of 15,000 rupees each to flood-affected families of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts at a programme held in Dibrugarh.
5. In Assembly by-elections, Jan Suraj leader Prashant Kishor has won the Bankipur seat in Bihar. Congress has kept Datia constituency in Madhya Pradesh. Prashant Kishor defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar by a margin of 19,324 votes, securing 64,151 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Kumari finished third with 14,273 votes and forfeited her security deposit.
6. In Assembly by-elections, the BJP has retained the Manjalpur seat in Gujarat’s Vadodara district, with its candidate, Satendrabhai Patel, defeating Congress nominee Bhikhabhai Rabari by over thirty thousand votes. Voting for the bypolls to the three constituencies was held on the 30th of last month.
7. Road Transport has proposed an amendment to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 to introduce two-wheeled road ambulances for emergency medical care. The proposed service aims to enable faster emergency response and improve access to medical care, particularly in remote areas.
8. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) launched a revamped version of its MyCall mobile application on 3 August 2026. The application allows telecom consumers to rate voice-call quality in real time and to report technical issues linked to call performance.
9. The Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) is an option under the National Pension System (NPS) for Central Government employees. By mid-July 2026, over 1.18 lakh Central Government workers, including new recruits, existing staff, and former retirees, had opted for the scheme. The UPS was notified on January 24, 2025, and became effective from 1 April 2025. The scheme was introduced as a pension option within the NPS framework for Central Government employees.
10. Assam released interim flood relief of about ₹160 crore on 3 August 2026 for families affected by recent floods in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts. The assistance was transferred directly to bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism, and each of nearly 75,000 worst-affected families received ₹15,000.
11. Hyderabad will host the second meeting of the BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group and the second meeting of the BRICS Expert Network on Asset Recovery on 4 and 5 August 2026. The meetings are being organised by the Department of Personnel and Training under India’s BRICS Presidency for 2026.
12. Indian Railways provides the Emergency Quota (EQ) to enable passengers traveling in emergency situations to get accommodation under emergency situations.
The EQ also provides for passengers like Ministers or members of Parliament under High Official Requisition (HOR) and also takes into account cancer patients who need to travel immediately for treatment immediately.

1. Food regulator FSSAI has prohibited Dabur India from selling food products carrying misleading ‘100%’ claims. The products include honey, cow ghee, edible oils, apple cider vinegar, coconut water and coconut milk. FSSAI said such claims violate the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations.
2. Lok Sabha has passed the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026. The bill aims to further amend the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956, for increasing the number of Judges of the Apex Court from the present 33 to 37 (excluding the Chief Justice of India).
3. The Tamil Nadu government has approached the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Karnataka government for immediate release of the share of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
4. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communication and Information Technology met Meta officials in New Delhi regarding the temporary removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s video from Facebook. BJP MP and chairperson of the committee Nishikant Dubey criticised Meta India for removing the social media post of the Prime Minister.

Death toll: At least 87 people have lost their lives in this year’s floods. The flood situation is improving gradually in some regions, but many villages remain inundated, and recovery is expected to take several weeks.

1. The Indian Air Force concluded Exercise ROTOR CLAP III at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan, on 1–2 August 2026. The rotary-wing exercise was themed Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems and involved multiple helicopter units of the Indian Air Force.
Exercise ROTOR CLAP III was the third edition of a series built around rotary-wing counter-drone operations.
The exercise involved AH-64 Apache attack helicopters, Mi-25/35 gunships, HAL Prachand light combat helicopters, and Chinook, Mi-17, and Dhruv transport and utility helicopters. These platforms represent different roles in attack, lift, transport, and utility missions within the Indian Air Force.
2. The Indian Navy launched DSC A24, the fifth and final vessel under its Diving Support Craft Project, on 1 August 2026 at Titagarh Rail Systems Limited shipyard in Kolkata. The five-ship programme was contracted by the Ministry of Defence on 12 February 2021 and was completed in about five and a half years.
3. The Indian Army has unveiled the Xtreme Weather Grade (XWG) diesel fuel, which has been manufactured with Indian technology. The introduction of this fuel will allow the military to operate their vehicles in extremely harsh conditions. The diesel can function in temperatures as low as -42°C.
4. The fourth Tri-Services Future Warfare Course commence on August 3rd, 2026, in the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. Conducted for four weeks with the backing of HQ Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and organized by Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS), this course will bring military officers, policymakers, scientists, industry experts, and strategic thinkers under a single roof as participants. The main objective of this course is to enhance the knowledge of the participants with regard emerging new technologies, geopolitical barriers, and forthcoming operational concepts.
5. Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, on Monday (August 3, 2026) began a three-day official visit to Vietnam aimed at further strengthening defence ties and expanding military cooperation between the two countries.
6. Russia launched the Project 885M Yasen-M nuclear-powered attack submarine K-563 Ulyanovsk on 28 July 2026 at the Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk. The submarine was laid down on 28 July 2017 and moved from enclosed construction to fitting-out afloat after the launch. The Project 885 and Project 885M boats belong to Russia’s fourth-generation multi-role nuclear attack submarine family.

1. OPEC+ approved a production increase of 188,000 barrels per day for September 2026 during a virtual meeting on 2 August 2026. The decision involved seven core members: Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman.
2. The Government revises Special Additional Excise Duty on exports of petrol, diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). Export duty on diesel raised to ₹25.50/litre, ATF to ₹22/litre and petrol to ₹3.50/litre. Revised rates, notified by Finance Ministry, come into effect today.
