Sumit Rathee breaks meet mark in 2000m Steeplechase, Khushi beats Rezoana in 200m final

AFI National Youth U18 Athletics Championships

Haryana’s Sumit Rathee set a new meet record in the boys 2000m Steeplechase and Madhya Pradesh’s Abhay Singh equalled the boys 200m sprint meet record to claim the limelight on the third and final day of the AFI National Youth (U18) Athletics Championships at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium in Ajjarakadu near here today.

Sumit Rathee led three other finishers home inside the Asian Youth Athletics Championships qualifying standard of 6:08.77. Abhay Singh was the only half-lapper to make the grade today.

Himanshu Rathi (800m), Sarthak Shivaji Nimbalakar (High Jump), K Yuvaraj (Triple Jump), Narpat Singh (Hammer Throw), Arjun (Javelin Throw) and all the podium finishers in the 10000m Race Walk were the other boys who met the respective Asian Youth Championships marks on the final day of competition here.

In a thrilling girls 200m final, Maharashtra’s Khushi Sadana Umesh beat West Bengal’s Rezona Mallick Heena by three-hundredths of a second and Haryana’s Nancy but all three met the Asian Youth Athletics Championships qualifying standard.
