1. Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda reviewed preparedness for the forthcoming NEET UG Counselling 2026.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that it reaffirms the Government’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, merit-based, technology-enabled and student-friendly admission process for undergraduate medical courses across the country.
2. The Delhi Government approved a vehicle fleet renewal initiative named PARIVARTAN – Programme for Accelerated Renewal and Incentivization of Vehicle Assets for Reducing Transport Air Pollution and Network Emissions.
The scheme aims to replace old and high-emission trucks and buses in Delhi-National Capital Region with cleaner Bharat Stage (BS)-VI compliant and electric vehicles (EVs).
3. Bihar Government has decided to reopen the closed sugar mills at Raiyam in Darbhanga and Sakri in Madhubani. The proposal was approved at a meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
4. Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and reviewed the ongoing relief efforts in the wake of the devastating floods in Upper Assam.
5. The Lok Sabha granted an extension on 29 July 2026 to the 41-member Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the One Nation, One Election proposal. The committee is examining the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, which relates to simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha, state legislative assemblies, and local bodies.
6. The Central Railway will run 246 Ganpati Special trains from 11th to 27th September for the benefit of Ganpati devotees. These include 184 reserved services connecting Mumbai and Pune with Sawantwadi Road, Ratnagiri and Madgaon, and 62 unreserved services between Diva and Khed. Booking for reserved trains will open from 1st August at all counters and on the IRCTC website.
7. Madhya Pradesh Police’s ‘Nashe se Doori Hai Jaruri 2.0’ campaign has created a new world record, with the Indore Police Commissionerate administering an online anti-drug pledge to 1,75,451 people simultaneously. The achievement has been recognised by the World Book of Records, London.
8. The Central Government on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that projects worth Rs. 154.57 crore have been approved for Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) to strengthen fisheries infrastructure, boost fish production and improve the livelihoods of fishermen.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the traditional holy Mace (Charri Mubarak) was ceremoniously taken out from the historic Dashnami Akhada at Maisuma in Srinagar yesterday on the occasion of Ashad Purnima (Guru Purnima). The ceremony marks the beginning of its annual journey to the holy Shri Amarnath Ji Cave Shrine.
11. Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 29 July 2026 by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai. The Bill seeks to amend the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 and to regulate delayed registration of births and deaths through stricter procedural requirements.

13. SHetA2 is an oral small-molecule therapy linked to Human Papillomavirus-related cervical disease. On 29 July 2026, the Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research validated the molecule for further development in India.

14. Andhrapradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed the collectors to ensure that all the crops sown get insurance coverage. There are indications that the El Nino effect could persist throughout the year, he said. He asked the ministers and their supporting staff to constantly visit the fields. He suggested that an El Nino Control room should be set up to monitor the effect.

1. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration, FDA, has banned the sale, advertisement and free distribution of processed and packaged foods and drinks high in fat, sugar and salt within 50 metres of school premises.
2. The Lok Sabha yesterday passed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. The Bill seeks to amend the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. The legislation incorporates several significant provisions, including stringent penalties such as imprisonment for up to ten years, fines of up to ten crore rupees, and the seizure of the properties of convicted offenders.
3. The Patna High Court has set up Fast Track Courts in Patna, Lakhisarai and Purnea for the speedy trial of cases related to question paper leaks and other irregularities in competitive examinations, including NEET.
4. A Delhi court on Wednesday cancelled the non-bailable warrants (NBWs) issued against SFI joint secretary Aishe Ghosh in a 2021 case, directing her to appear personally on August 30.
5. The Bangalore Hotels Association (BHA) on Wednesday warned that hotels affiliated to it and other hospitality bodies in the city would suspend business with online food delivery platform Swiggy from August 15 if the company failed to resolve longstanding issues relating to payment transparency, unauthorised deductions and advertising charges.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the country’s first dedicated academic and operational department exclusively focused on military medicine. He virtually inaugurated the Department of Military Medicine at Command Hospital (Central Command) in Lucknow.
The initiative aims to enhance combat medical readiness, advancing research, developing indigenous doctrines and creating specialised expertise for future battlefields and humanitarian contingencies.
2. The Union Home Ministry has initiated a major security expansion by planning around 40 permanent Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) offices in West Bengal’s border districts with Bangladesh, requiring nearly 50 acres of land. This move aims to strengthen intelligence gathering, surveillance, and counter-infiltration measures amid rising cross-border threats.
