1. The Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED),which is popularly known as the windfall tax on exports of petroleum products, has been modified by Government of India and is now effective from the start of the fortnight commencing from July 16, 2026. An announcement released by the Ministry of Finance states the imposition of a higher export duty on diesel and ATF exports.

2. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in collaboration with Rajasthan Government, organized Videsh Sampark Programme in Jaipur as part of its outreach initiative with the States and Union Territories to strengthen cooperative federalism.

3. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has underscored the need for closer cooperation among BIMSTEC member countries to address economic challenges, including disruptions in global supply chains.

4. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal interacted with the Indian business delegation comprising members of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), ASSOCHAM and other regional associations in Brussels, Belgium.

5. Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi has said that the BRICS countries will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bengaluru to collaborate in the field of standardisation.

The fifth BRICS Heads of National Standardisation Bodies meeting is being held in Bengaluru under India’s Chairship. It has brought together representatives from 11 countries, including Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Egypt, Indonesia and the UAE. The meeting aims to strengthen cooperation in standardisation among the BRICS member countries.

1. Ukraine’s parliament approved Serhii Koretskyi, as the country’s new prime minister, as part of a major government reshuffle. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy nominated Koretskyi, citing his record in the energy sector and arguing that he was best placed to help prepare Ukraine for another wartime winter.

2. The United States intensified its strikes on Iran early yesterday morning, hitting targets further north as American forces also fired into a ship. The US accused the ship of trying to break its naval blockade on the Islamic Republic.

3. The Baloch National Movement (BNM) has raised serious concerns over the security situation in Balochistan’s coastal Jiwani region. The organisation claimed that Pakistani authorities are seeking to erase local communities.

4. A fire at an orphanage near Algeria’s capital has killed 11 children and injured 19 others. Algeria’s Civil Protection agency said the fire broke out early yesterday at the two-story childcare institution in Mohammedia, in the eastern suburbs of the capital Algiers.
