1. Five Indian students have won gold medals at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2026, held in Bucaramanga, Colombia, from the 4th to the 12th of this month.
2. Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Mawlawi Ataullah Omari, concluded his six-day visit to India yesterday. The External Affairs Ministry said the Afghan Minister was accompanied by a high-level delegation. This was the 4th ministerial-level visit from Afghanistan to India since October last year.
3. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognisance of the reported torture and murder of a 21-year-old medical student from Keralam in Uzbekistan. The Commission expressed grave concern over allegations of physical assault, harassment and attempted forced religious conversion preceding her death.
4. The mortal remains of the 15 Indian tourists who lost their lives in the boat capsize incident near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam repatriated from Ho Chi Minh City to India yesterday by Vietnam Airlines flight.

1. A new vaccine to combat a strain of Ebola spreading across the Democratic Republic of Congo will soon be tested on adults in the United Kingdom. Scientists at the University of Oxford have been working to develop a jab to protect against the Bundibugyo type of Ebola and now plan to assess its safety and immune response in 50 healthy adults aged 18 to 55.
2. The United States and Iran have each claimed control of the Strait of Hormuz following a weekend of escalating attacks across West Asia, raising fresh concerns over regional security and efforts to revive diplomacy. The latest escalation began after Iran struck a container ship in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman.
3. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for missile and drone strikes on US military bases in Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait as part of its ongoing ‘Eye-for-an-Eye’ operation. The IRGC said the attacks were carried out in retaliation for recent US strikes on Iranian military targets.
4. A NASA astronaut of Indian descent, Anil Menon is set to embark on an eight-month mission to the International Space Station (ISS) today from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan along with two Russian cosmonauts.
*The Roscosmos Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft is scheduled for lift-off from the Baikonur spaceport at 8:17 PM Indian Standard Time and is expected to dock at the orbital laboratory after a little over three hours.
