The real art of reinvention is not becoming someone new but noticing who you’ve been all along: Florian Hurel

Celebrity hairstylist Florian Hurel has moved through different phases of his career, but for him, reinvention is not a dramatic shift. It is something quieter, a mix of choice, pressure, and staying open to change.

He said, “I think it’s a combination of both. Life presents situations that push you out of your comfort zone, but choosing to evolve is ultimately a conscious decision. In creative industries, standing still is not really an option.”

“Trends change, technology changes, and people change. I’ve always believed that growth comes from staying curious and being willing to learn, no matter how much experience you have. Reinvention, for me, is less about becoming someone new and more about discovering new dimensions of who you already are,” he added.
There is a clear thread in how he looks at growth. He said, “Many people see the success, but they don’t always see the uncertainty behind it. One of the biggest risks I took was leaving behind stability to build something of my own. There were moments when the outcome was far from guaranteed. Investing in a vision before others could see it requires a lot of faith.”

“Looking back, every major milestone in my career came from a decision that felt uncomfortable at the time. Risk is often the price of growth,” he added. What stands out here is not just the success but the uncertainty that came before it and the willingness to sit with that discomfort. He said, “Interestingly, both. Social media has given celebrities the confidence to explore different versions of themselves because trends travel faster and audiences are more exposed to global influences.”

“At the same time, every look is instantly judged, discussed, and archived online. That creates a level of caution as well. The smartest artists and celebrities understand that experimentation is important, but authenticity is even more important. The looks that resonate most are the ones that feel true to the person wearing them,” he added. Florian believes talent may make someone a star, but humility and consistency are what make someone a superstar. He said, “The people who leave the strongest impression are often those who respect everyone’s contribution, from the production team to the artists behind the scenes. They understand that success is a collective effort.”

“I’ve met some of the biggest names in the industry, and what stands out most is not their fame; it’s their professionalism, discipline, and ability to make people around them feel valued,” he added.

For him, what defines someone isn’t what happens in front of the camera but how they behave when no one is watching. He said, “Every long career comes with moments of doubt. There are phases when projects don’t go as planned, opportunities don’t materialise, or you simply wonder what the next chapter should look like.”

“During those times, I always returned to the reason I started in the first place, my passion for creativity and transformation. Focusing on the work rather than the uncertainty helped me move forward. Sometimes the answer isn’t to find a new path; it’s to reconnect with your purpose,” he added.

Even in doubt, his way forward is not reinvention; it’s going back to the original intent. He said, “The pursuit of excellence never really ends. What excites me today is the opportunity to create impact beyond my own work, whether that’s mentoring talent, building platforms for education, or elevating industry standards.”

“Beauty is an ever-evolving space, and there is always something new to learn, explore, and contribute. Success is not a destination; it’s the ability to keep growing while helping others grow alongside you. That’s what continues to inspire me every day,” Florian ended.
