1. Sri Lanka has climbed 14 places to rank 67th in the 2026 Global Peace Index (GPI), securing the second position in South Asia and marking one of the most significant improvements in the region. The ranking reflects the country’s continued recovery after nearly three decades of civil conflict, which ended in 2009.
2. The United States has carried out a second consecutive night of what it described as “self-defence” strikes against Iranian military infrastructure near the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating tensions in West Asia. Explosions were reported in and around Bandar Abbas and on Qeshm Island, as the confrontation entered a more dangerous phase.
