Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said India and the US have finalised most elements of the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement, and negotiations are now focused on a few minor issues, “commas and full stops”. He said that the US team is in New Delhi to hold talks on finalising the first phase of Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
2. India has formally issued the Letter of Request to France for the acquisition of 114 Rafale fighter jets in a government-to-government deal valued at approximately ₹3.25 lakh crore.
3. The Second BRICS Culture Working Group (CWG) Meeting is scheduled in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, from 4 to 5 June 2026. India holds the BRICS Chairship for 2026 and is hosting the meeting under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”.

1. Israel has sharply escalated its military campaign in Lebanon, ordering new airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs while pressing ahead with what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as a major turning point in the conflict.
2. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has warned that antisemitism in the country has reached levels not seen since World War II. Speaking at Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto, Carney said more than two-thirds of religion-based hate crimes recorded last year targeted Jewish Canadians, who make up just one per cent of the population.
3. US President Donald Trump has said that Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to dial back fighting after he held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and communicated with the Lebanon-based militant group through mediators.
4. Iran has warned that Israeli attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon could threaten Tehran’s ceasefire with the US, after Israel’s prime minister ordered strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the agreement with the US was unequivocally a ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon and that its violation on one front is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts.
5. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for targeting the Panama-flagged container ship MSC Sariska V with a cruise missile, saying the strike was retaliation for an earlier attack on an Iranian vessel near Oman.
6. In Kenya, hundreds of women took to the streets today, calling for the government to urgently investigate rising cases of gender-based violence and femicide.
