Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, May 30: JKC Sports-owned Gwalior Cheetahs, visited the Mahakaleshwar Temple here today ahead of the start of the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) 2026 season.
Players, coaches and support staff came together at the temple as preparations for the new season enter their final phase. The visit provided the squad with an opportunity to seek blessings and begin the campaign with a sense of unity and purpose ahead of what promises to be a highly competitive tournament.
The Gwalior Cheetahs head into the season determined to go one step further after narrowly missing out on a place in the final in both 2024 and 2025. Backed by a strong core of experienced performers and young talent, the franchise is aiming to leave a lasting impact this season.
The team boasts strength across departments, with captain Rajat Patidar leading from the front. The accomplished batter brings leadership experience to the side, having enjoyed success across domestic and franchise cricket. The squad also features Mangesh Yadav, the highest wicket-taker from the previous edition with 14 wickets, adding further firepower to the bowling unit.
The side will be coached and guided by Aditya Srivastava, under whose captaincy Madhya Pradesh ended a 69-year wait for the Ranji Trophy title in 2022.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Srivastava said, “It was a good feeling for the entire group to come together and seek blessings before the start of the season. We’ve played some good cricket over the last two years but know we can do even better, and that’s what we’re aiming for this season.
We’ve got a balanced squad with a nice mix of experience and youth, and having someone like Rajat Patidar leading the side is a big positive for us. We’ve all seen what he has achieved for Central Zone, Madhya Pradesh and in franchise cricket, and the experience he brings will be invaluable. The players are excited for the challenge and we’re looking forward to getting our campaign underway.”
Gwalior Cheetahs will feature in the inaugural match of the 2026 Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) when they take on Ujjain Falcons on June 3 at 7:30 PM IST at Holkar Stadium, Indore.
