1. PM Modi is likely to chair a full Council of Ministers meeting on May 21. The review comes amid intensifying speculation over a Cabinet expansion and reshuffle ahead of the government’s first anniversary.

2. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday (May 14, 2026) announced the schedule for Phase 3 of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 16 States and three Union Territories beginning May 30.

3. Kerala Chief Minister Announcement Live Updates: The Congress on Thursday named VD Satheesan as the next chief minister of Kerala, Oath is on May 18.

4. The Government of India has approved a Rs 503.86 crore budget for the installation of 4,874 new EV chargers. These chargers will be set up across India – Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Government-owned oil agencies, including Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL), Indian Oil (IOCL), and Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), have been green-flagged to install these EV chargers.

5. The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal released the LEADS 2025 Report in New Delhi and felicitated the winners of the LEAPS 2025 Awards. LEADS stands for Logistics Ease Across Different States and serves as India’s annual assessment and benchmarking tool for the logistics sector across States and Union Territories.

6. Assam Cabinet has approved the draft Uniform Civil Code Bill covering marriage, divorce, succession and live-in relationships, while also announcing austerity measures, job plans, and a Bhupen Hazarika museum project amid global economic uncertainty. The Bill is expected to be introduced in the State Assembly of Assam on May 26.

7. The ten newly elected members of the Maharashtra Legislative Council were sworn-in as members of the upper house yesterday. Chairperson of Maharashtra’s Legislative Council Prof. Ram Shinde administered the oath to the newly elected members in the Central Hall of the Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavi.

8. In Assam, Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has approved the allocation of portfolios to the newly inducted members of the Council of Ministers headed by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

9. In Jammu and Kashmir, the Rajouri district is set to receive its first-ever 100-bedded boys’ hostel under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme for students belonging to the Line of Control (LoC) and remote border areas.

11. The West Bengal government has lifted all restrictions on the interstate movement of potatoes, onions, fruits, vegetables, oil seeds, food grains, and other essential products. The restrictions had been imposed by the erstwhile TMC government.

12. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) launched two Artificial Intelligence-based weather forecasting products for monsoon regions that depend on rain-fed agriculture. One product was developed by the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) for Uttar Pradesh, and the other was developed by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune for district-level rainfall forecasting.

LEGAL REPORT

1. The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Sravanthi promoter Dandamudi Venkateswara Rao, also known as D.V. Rao, along with two others in connection with a money laundering case involving alleged laundering of around 284 crore rupees.

2. Actor Jacqueline Fernandez Tuesday withdrew a plea filed last month to turn approver in a Rs 200-crore money laundering case involving alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekar.

Fernandez had been named as a co-accused by the ED for enjoying the ‘proceeds of crime’ allegedly given to her as gifts by Sukesh from the Rs 200 crore. Sukesh allegedly extorted this money from Aditi Singh, the wife of former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Singh.

3. About 25 foreign nationals have been arrested or detained so far for allegedly casting votes with fraudulently obtained identity documents in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election, police sources confirmed.

4. CBI has arrested two more persons in connection with the NEET (UG) paper-leak case, with the role of several officers of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and other organisations, who had access to the printing press where the papers were printed, coming under the scanner.
The agency has arrested Dhananjay Lokhanda from Ahilyanagar and Manisha Waghmare from Pune and conducted searches at 14 locations.

5. Delhi High Court judge Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma initiated criminal contempt proceedings against Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Durgesh Pathak and others over alleged vilifying social media posts linked to the excise policy case.

6. DMK youth wing leader and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday (May 14, 2026) said “destroying Sanatana” did not mean people should stop going to temples.

Reacting to criticism of his speech in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He said equal rights should be given to everyone, not only in temples but in society as a whole. “I only said that what divides people into upper castes and lower castes should be destroyed. I merely echoed the views of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy (social reformer), B. R. Ambedkar (architect of the Indian Constitution) and C. N. Annadurai (former Chief Minister),” he said.

7. In Tamilnadu, CM Vijay govt reinforces 21-year age limit for liquor sales after closure of 700 TASMAC shops. The Tamil Nadu government has directed staff at all TASMAC outlets to verify the age of customers and deny liquor sales to those below the legal drinking age.

8. Punjab Police has arrested the prime accused in the blast that took place near the heavily guarded main gate of the Border Security Force Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar on the 5th of May.

1. The Indian Army and the Indian Navy on Thursday inked an Memorandum of Association (MoA) on Affiliation, formalising a framework for structured cooperation between Army’s formations and establishments and naval ships and commands amid the military’s broader push towards greater jointness and integrated war fighting.

2. Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, AVSM, has been appointed as the Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) with effect from June 1, 2026.

3. Captain Kulvinder Singh Bali assumed command of INS Dronacharya, the Gunnery and Missile training school of the Indian Navy located at Fort Kochi, from Commodore Manav Sehgal, VSM, on May 14, 2026.

4. Indian Naval Ship INS Sunayna, deployed as IOS Sagar with a multinational crew from 16 countries, is scheduled to arrive at Colombo today as part of India’s maritime outreach initiative in the Indian Ocean Region.
The ship was flagged off from Mumbai on April 2 after joint harbour training involving naval personnel from countries including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, Mauritius, South Africa and the UAE.

5. To honour the unmatched courage and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces, ultra-marathon runner Sufiya Khan, who holds several world records in endurance running and high altitude marathons, is undertaking an arduous expedition from the country’s southern tip to its northernmost frontiers.

With five Guinness World Records under her belt, this would be an attempt at a sixth record. The expedition was ceremonially flagged off by Headquarters Dakshin Bharat Area under the aegis of the Army’s Southern Command on May 12. Army said the ‘Run for Dreams: Kanyakumari to Karakoram’ covers an incredible 5,000 km across 11 states in 88 days.

1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the license of Sarvodaya Co-operative Bank Ltd. This order was came on 12th of May, 2026 after business hours and order immediately stopped the bank from carrying out normal banking operations. RBI also clarified that mort of the depositors are protected under India’s deposit insurance system which will covers the deposits up to ₹5 lakh per depositor.

2. India has imposed an immediate ban on sugar exports until 30 September 2026 to safeguard domestic supply and control inflation risks. As the world’s second-largest sugar producer, the move is expected to influence both domestic availability and global sugar prices.

3. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a ₹37,500 crore scheme to promote surface coal and lignite gasification projects. The initiative aims to strengthen India’s energy future by reducing dependence on imported fuels and industrial chemicals.
