1. Today marks the final day of campaigning for the first phase of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, with political parties making their last push before 152 constituencies in 16 districts head to the polls on 23rd April.

2. BJP senior leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address a huge rally at Sukna Sports Ground today in Siliguri. In this rally, he will cover eight assembly constituencies Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Siliguri, Matigarha-Naxalbari, Phansideva and Fullbari-Dabhgram.

3. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh yesterday unveiled a memorial stone erected in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the bombing by Japanese forces that occurred on 20th April, 1943, during World War II at Khurai Chingambam Leikai in Imphal East.

8. The Ministry of Minority Affairs yesterday has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Indian Institute of Technology Patna under the PM VIKAS scheme to promote skill development among minority youth.

9. President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit Shimla from April 27 to May 2. During this proposed tour, she will stay at the President’s official residence in Shimla, ‘The Retreat.’

10. India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park is set to be developed at the Sindhu Ghat in Ladakh. The foundation stone was laid on the April 18th, 2026 and the event coinciding with World Heritage Day and it was laid by Vinai Kumar Saxena.

11. Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao honored with the 9th Prof. M.S. Swaminathan Award in Hyderabad for contributions to climate-resilient agriculture. The award coincides with the birth centenary of Green Revolution pioneer M.S. Swaminathan.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heatwave conditions over Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Punjab and Vidarbha for the next two days. The weather agency has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh.

1. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two senior executives of Reliance Communications Limited (RCom) in connection with a case alleging wrongful loss of about ₹2,929.05 crore to the State Bank of India (SBI).

2. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that the ruling Mahayuti alliance will launch a statewide drive to collect one crore signatures in support of the women’s reservation bill, even as a war of words broke out between the ruling alliance and the opposition over its implementation.

3. The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is set to expand its electric public transport fleet, with plans to roll out another set of about 70 new electric metro express buses in the city soon.

4. CBI launches AI chatbot ‘Abhay’ to help citizens verify official notices and avoid digital scams. Unveiled by CJI Surya Kant, the initiative aims to curb rising fraud cases and strengthen public safety using artificial intelligence.

1. India and South Korea are intensifying their Special Strategic Partnership with a strong emphasis on advanced defence cooperation. Central to this effort are Phase 3 negotiations for the K9 Vajra-T 155mm self-propelled howitzer.This new phase builds upon the earlier production of 100 units in India.

2. The seventh edition of the India–Uzbekistan joint military exercise, DUSTLIK 2026, is currently being conducted at the Gurumsaray Field Training Area in Namangan, Uzbekistan.The Ministry of Defence has stated that the exercise is designed to enhance interoperability and joint operational capability in semi‑mountainous terrain.

3. The United Kingdom is hosting Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan for a three-day visit beginning on 19 April, marking the first official visit by an Indian CDS to the UK.

4. India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) represents a bold step towards establishing a cost‑efficient fifth‑generation stealth fighter tailored to meet the Indian Air Force’s requirements by 2035.Conceived as a twin‑engine platform with medium weight of approximately 25 tons, the AMCA is designed to incorporate advanced sensor fusion, artificial intelligence‑enabled systems.

5. The government has initiated the procurement process for a compact unmanned aerial vehicle system tailored for the Indian Air Force’s Garud Special Forces.Officials have confirmed that the system is designed to operate in extreme environmental conditions and at altitudes reaching 16,400 feet above mean sea level.
