1. Polling for Assembly elections in Assam, Keralam, and the Union Territory of Puducherry will be held today. Voting will be held for all 126 seats in Assam, 140 in Keralam and 30 seats in Puducherry. Polling will begin today at 7 AM and continue till 6 PM.

2. The Union Cabinet has approved 41 thousand 534 crore rupees nutrient-based subsidy for Phosphatic and Potassic fertilizers for this year’s Kharif season. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made the announcement while briefing media in New Delhi.

3. On the occasion of World Health Day, the Maharashtra government started a new rural healthcare campaign called “Majha Gaon, Arogyasampann Gaon” (My Village, Healthy Village). This scheme, worth Rs.65.25 crore, aims to improve health services in villages and make quality treatment available to people near their homes.

4. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has also approved the revision of HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited project cost from 43 thousand 129 crore rupees to 79 thousand 459 crore rupees.

The CCEA also approved investment of over 26 thousand crore rupees for construction of Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.

5. India is celebrating 11 successful years of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), a major government scheme that has helped millions of small entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses. Launched on April 8, 2015, by PM Modi, the scheme focuses on providing easy, collateral-free loans to people who were earlier unable to access formal banking services. The Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana is a government initiative that provides loans of up to Rs.20 lakh to small and micro businesses.

6. Air pollution continues to be a serious problem in India, and a new report has brought fresh concerns. According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), Gurgaon was the most polluted city in the country in March 2026.

7. The Government has said, that it is ensuring continued availability of LPG, petrol and diesel, fertilisers for farmers and facilitating supply of essential commodities in the country. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated this in social media post after chairing the third meeting of the Group of Ministers on West Asia in New Delhi.

8. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday (April 8, 2026) approved a draft amendment Bill to operationalise the Women’s Reservation Act by the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.Under the proposal, the strength of the Lok Sabha is set to rise from 543 to 816 seats, following a fresh delimitation exercise.

9. BJP on Wednesday appointed G Krishnakumar, a Malayali actor who contested Assembly and Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket, as the part-time Chairman of National Film Development Corporation.

10. Veteran Congress leader and former Union minister Mohsina Kidwai passed away on 8 April 2026 at the age of 94. She died at a hospital in Noida after suffering from age-related ailments.
