19 March 2026, is a significant date in the Hindu calendar, marking the beginning of the Hindu New Year (Vikram Samvat 2083), starting the Chaitra month, and ushering in Chaitra Navratri and festivals like Gudi Padwa (Maharashtra/Goa) and Ugadi (Andhra Pradesh/Telangana/Karnataka). It falls on the Chaitra Shukla Pratipada tithi (lunar day).

1. President Droupadi Murmu & PM Modi extended greetings to the nation on the eve of Indian New Year and spring festivals of Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Cheti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba.

2. The Union Cabinet has approved the BHAVYA (Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojna )Scheme to develop 100 plug and play industrial parks across India. This scheme will be implemented with budget with 33,600 Indian rupee crore. This scheme was Announced on the March 18 2026. This scheme aims to the strengthen industrial infrastructure and boost manufacturing growth.

3. The Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, a major global conference-cum-exhibition for the power sector, is being held from 19 to 22 March 2026 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. The event is expected to attract over 25,000 visitors, with participation from more than 80 countries, making it one of the largest global platforms focused on electricity and clean energy.

4. Department of Posts, under the Ministry of Communications, has introduced a new premium service called “24 Speed Post” to ensure faster and reliable delivery of urgent consignments. The initiative aims to enhance logistics efficiency and cater to growing demand from businesses and individuals for time-bound delivery services.

5. The Punjab Government has launched a new phase of school education reform, ‘Punjab Sikhya Kranti 2.0′, in collaboration with the World Bank to prepare the state’s education system to compete with the best in the world.

6. In Gujarat, the high-level committee for the Uniform Civil Code submitted its final draft report to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar.

7. The Maharashtra assembly has approved the Maharashtra Repealing Bill, 2026, resulting in 80 outdated laws being scrapped, including the Bengal Regulation of 1825 and the Bombay Abkari Act. These laws were no longer in use and needed to be removed as part of efforts to promote good governance and streamline administrative processes.

8. In a landmark step towards strengthening rural drinking water governance, Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 were signed with the States of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, marking the formal launch of reform-linked implementation under the extended phase of the Mission which was approved by the union cabinet on 10th March 2026.

9. Union Cabinet approves Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojna with allocation of 33 thousand 660 crore rupees for developing 100 plug-and-play industrial parks across the country.

10. The Rajya Sabha yesterday bid farewell to 59 members from 20 states including 9 women who are set to retire from April to June this year. Speaking in the House on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that their contribution to Parliamentary democracy will always be remembered.

Three people were killed, and many others were injured in a road accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Navi Mumbai yesterday morning. Police said a container truck lost control, hit multiple vehicles, and overturned onto an Innova car, killing all three occupants on the spot.

1. The second edition of Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR commenced on 16 Mar 2026. The Indian Navy assumed the chair of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) in Feb 2026. Therefore, this Edition includes participation from 16 IONS nations of theDepartment of Posts, under the Ministry of Communications, has introduced a new premium service called “24 Speed Post” to ensure faster and reliable delivery of urgent consignments. The initiative aims to enhance logistics efficiency and cater to growing demand from businesses and individuals for time-bound delivery services. Indian Ocean Region(IOR).

The initiative builds on India’s long-standing maritime cooperation efforts and reflects the Government of India’s vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR), while also advancing the broader framework of MAHASAGAR – Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Regions.

2. The Indian Army has launched a Major Bridge Project in Sri Lanka under Operation Sagar Bandhu. The Ministry of Defence said the bridge links Colombo, the capital city, with the key economic centre of Puttalam along the vital coastal corridor passing through the Chilaw district.

3. Indian Army to Receive Final Batch of Dhanush Howitzer Order Later this Year, The 2019 contract for 114 of these 155mm/45-calibre weapons is being fulfilled by Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL), a state-run entity formed from the corporatisation of the former Ordnance Factory Board.

1. The Indian Navy has placed two passenger ships on standby to evacuate Indian nationals from Gulf countries, even as families of Indian seafarers stranded in Iran grow increasingly anxious over a complete communication blackout at Iranian ports.

2. PM Modi on Tuesday (March 17, 2026) spoke to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, discussed with him the current situation in West Asia and agreed on ensuring safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

3. Historian William Dalrymple has been awarded the prestigious Mark Lynton History Prize 2026 for his book “The Golden Road: How Ancient India Transformed the World”. The prize is part of the J. 4. India has achieved a technological milestone with the successful testing of an indigenously developed Floating LiDAR Buoy System by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT). Conducted off the coast of Muttom in Tamil Nadu, the innovation marks a major step forward in ocean observation and atmospheric data collection, especially for offshore environments.

India and Indonesia have announced a collaborative initiative to restore the historic Prambanan Temple complex in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, marking a significant step in cultural diplomacy and heritage conservation. 2. The Madras High Court has issued a fresh order in a cheque bounce case related to the film ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ starring Rajinikanth. The court warned that if the remaining compensation amount is not paid before April 20, the producer’s representative will have to serve six months of imprisonment. The case involves Murali Manohar, director of Media One Global Entertainment, who had earlier challenged a lower court’s order that sentenced him to jail in the cheque fraud case.
