1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu unveiled the bust of Chakravarti Rajagopalachari as part of Rajaji Utsav at Rashtrapati Bhavan, a celebration of the life and legacy of the first Indian Governor General of the country.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Edwin Lutyens’ statue at Rashtrapati Bhavan will be replaced with C Rajagopalachari’s statue. The move aims to shed colonial symbols and honour India’s first Governor-General. Rajaji Utsav celebrated on February 23.

3. The government yesterday sanctioned over 2.88 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 at the meeting of the 6th Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee held in New Delhi.

5. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh today said that the government aims to achieve 10 billion dollars in handloom exports by 2031. Addressing the 43rd foundation day of the National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) in New Delhi.

6. Several parts of Hyderabad received the first spell of rains for the year on Monday (February 23) as a weather system developing over the southern Bay of Bengal began influencing conditions across the region. The system has been affecting parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the past few days.

7. In Telangana Cabinet, at its meeting chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday, approved the takeover of 69-km Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-I from Larsen & Toubro (L&T) by March 31, end of the current financial year. This will pave the way for rapid expansion of the network under Phase-II as a joint venture between the state government and the Centre.

1. The Supreme Court on Monday (February 23, 2026) orally observed that pre-2018 acquisition cases cannot be reopened for the grant of compensation with interest to the farmers whose land had been acquired under the NHAI Act.

2. The Supreme Court on Monday (February 23) refused to restrain the one-man committee inquiry initiated by the Andhra Pradesh Government into the alleged lapses in relation to the adulteration of the ghee used in the Tirupati temple laddu.

4. The Supreme Court sought responses of the union ministries on a proposal for shifting all the coal-based industries out of Delhi-NCR to ensure better air quality.

The apex court also directed Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan to issue public notices inviting suggestions and objections from stakeholders, including the coal-based industries in the NCR.

5. The Calcutta High Court expressed its anguish over the lackluster role of the government of West Bengal and Kolkata Municipal Corporation over the illegal constructions on the East Kolkata Wetlands which is a Ramsar site despite the court’s multiple orders to dismantle.

1. Air ambulance from Ranchi to Delhi crashes in J’khand, all 7 on board killed. The crash occurred after the air ambulance took off from Ranchi airport at about 7.10 pm. The ambulance had lost contact with air traffic control around 20 minutes after takeoff.

2. In Nepal, 17 people, including two foreigners, died in a bus accident near Charaundi in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality of Dhading along the Prithvi Highway yesterday morning.

1. The Ministry of Home Affairs unveiled the country’s new national counter-terrorism policy and strategy titled PRAHAAR.

The policy—titled PRAHAAR— has been uploaded on the MHA website. It states that India faces terrorist threats on all three fronts—water, land and air—and that capacities have been developed to protect critical sectors of the economy, including power, railways, aviation, ports, defence, space and atomic energy, from both state/non-state actors.

2. The Indian Navy, in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has achieved a pivotal milestone in the Gaganyaan initiative, aimed at launching Indian astronauts into space. Recent trials conducted at the Water Survival Training Facility in Kochi, situated within INS Garuda, have seen the completion of crew egress protocols for the Gaganyatris, the Indian astronauts involved in the mission. This specialized training is crucial to ensuring that following the spacecraft’s splashdown in the ocean, the crew can safely exit and await rescue operations.

3. In a major counter-terrorism success, security forces in Kishtwar have neutralised a Jaish terror module after an extensive operation, significantly enhancing regional security.

Inspector general of police (Jammu zone) Bhim Sen Tuti said on Monday that in a joint operation, security forces have neutralised a seven-member Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror module, dubbed the “Israel Group”, bringing an end to a year-and-a-half-long operation in the Kishtwar belt of Jammu and Kashmir.
