🛕 SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE
What is the history behind shaving one’s head after the death of a loved one in some Hindu traditions?
The yogic science has very precise instructions of when and how to shave the hair and when not. It is a very important part of meditation and sadhna.

Mundan, as they call it, is the ritual of shaving the head post the death of an elderly member in the family. … It is believed that shaving off the hair helps men to let go of their ego. It gives them a sense of responsibility and reminds them to be obedient and become more selfless while performing their deeds.
So shaving off the hair creates an upsurge of energies in turn creating a higher level of consciousness which helps in concentrating in ritual process which are created to be performed with that level of consciousness. 🙏🏻

“Head shaving after death is not just a ritual, but a symbol of detachment, purification, discipline, and acceptance of life’s cycle.

Hair grows back.
So shaving represents:
End of one phase
Beginning of a new cycle
Just like life and death are cycles in Hindu philosophy (Samsara).
